How far in advance did you book your venue? PLEASE HELP!!!!

My FI is deployed to Afghanstan and isn't coming home till mid September. Our wedding date is September 21, 2013. Do I need to book a venue ASAP? Do some venues have a specific time frame in which you can book a date (no earlier than 1year prior)???? I would live for him to visit different venues with me but I don't know if I have the time.

Some venues only allow you to book a year in advance (I know North Bank Park Pavilion books no more than 1 year in advance  http://parks.columbus.gov/programs.aspx?id=26621).  Others will book more than a year out.

I think we booked our venue (and officially set our date) about 10-11 months in advance (ETA- We were flexible about our date so many venues still had openings for the month/season we were looking for).  If you have some flexibility in your wedding date, you should be able to wait to book your venue.  If you want a popular venue, it might be starting to book up now.  If that weekend is an away OSU game, or a bye week, venues might fill up sooner rather than later.

    Good luck!

Agreed with previous post.  Some of the more popular sites can fill up quick.  however, there are tons of venue options around town. We were only engaged 8 months and booked our venue at 6 months out. Being that we got married in June, we did run into a couple of our faves that were booked.

  • We booked 9 months in advance and our wedding date is Sept 22.....you are definitely getting married during prime wedding season so I would book fairly early to have more choices. If you wait too long, you could have your choice narrowed by whats available rather than by what you like the most.
  • Congrats to you for not only having your fiance back home safely but for getting married too. Im also a military spouse so i know how that is. I agree with the Previous post. But i would also call the venues you have in mind to see what dates they have available and if they would allow you to book early or later based on your needs. Im planning my wedding from Germany and i've found a lot of venues and vendors are flexible.
  • We booked ours about 15 months in advance.  Maybe you could tour some venues in the meantime and take him to the top 2-3.  That way the process will be expedited once he gets home and you can book something ASAP.
