Aisle Runners

Ok, so my mom and I were having this debate last night and I need as many opinions as I can get. She said that the aisle runner goes down before the whole wedding party comes down and they walk on it too. I always thought that the wedding party walks down and then after that the ushers roll out the aisle runner for the bride to walk on.  Also the Cannon and D song that I am having myself walk down to is about 4-5 minutes so I was hoping that by rolling it out in this time it would cut it down a little. Any suggestions would be very helpful and appreciated!

    I'm not going to be of much help, since our aisle runner will actually go down before guests arrive, so everyone will walk on it.  I'm trying to cover the fire engine red carpet at my venue, and this seemed like the easiest way to do it.  Plus, since I'm going to hand paint our monogram on to the aisle runner, I'd like as many people to see it as possible :)

    Im also having my runner down before hand but not allowing anynoe to walk on it. lol. the church im using has one center aisle and two outter aisles and im having the parents and the attendants walk up the outter ones.

    edit: you can do it the way you want and it would help cut the song/walk tie down. the reason i am not beside the other aisles is because im also monogramming mine and want people to see it.

    Aisle runners were first used to protect the Bride's dress.  The guests would often drag mud, dirt, and debris into the church and the runner was rolled out for the bride to protect the bottom of her dress.  So it this suggests that it should be rolled out for the bride's entrance (after the wedding party has walked to the altar).  Now days it's fairly interchangeable with being rolled out for the entire wedding party or for just the bride.

    Keep in mind that there are often hiccups with the runners and a lot of time could be spent trying to get it rolled out right.  If your wedding party is already at the altar this could make for an awkward choppy pause in your processional.

    Things to keep in mind, will it be made out of plastic, paper, or fabric?  Will you roll it from the altar to the back or from the back to the altar?  Will it need to be pinned or taped down?  The answers to these might help you decide on the best timing.
