Wedding Wednesday

Good morning! What'd we all get accomplished last week and what's on the docket coming up?

FI and I have a cake tasting and bakery consultation on Saturday. He's been asking me about free cake for like two months now, so I figured it was time.

We have our e-pictures scheduled for next Saturday, but I may choose to postpone them a week or two. I just mostly don't feel like driving out Syracuse since we went like a hundred times this month already, so pushing it back a couple weekends may be the answer.

  • cnf, enjoy the cake tasting. I'm pretty sure that's what my FI is looking forward to the most. It's also the only appointment my dad wants to come to.

I picked up my dress last night and loved it when I put it on. I feel thinner than I am in it and feel great too. FI nailed down his guest list and is working on getting addresses. I got to mooch off of my brother and he sent me all of our family's addresses which was great so I didn't have much to do there. The save the dates are printed and ready to go I'm just waiting on the envelopes I ordered online to come in. Once those come it's time to send them out! I'm hoping to get to the florist for real sometime in the next week to get a quote and talk about everything I'll need. I think that about sums up the week!

  • Man reading these makes me feel behind, I guess we are slowly getting down to the big day and im no longer 2 years away anymore (I booked my venue 1 year ago).

Realistically I am working on DIY, but waiting on my dad to cut some wood that Ive been asking him to do for the last 2 weeks.  I would but I don't have a table saw and he wont let me use someone elses or his without him there (he's afraid I will cut my hands off).  I also scored a sweet deal on a vintage window on craigslist that im picking up today after work ($10!).  I will be using it for my bar menu so all I need is that chalky-pen thing and that DIY can be done.

What I NEED to do sometime soon: Do makeup and hair trials and book, Im finding in my brief research that a good handful are booked already!  Look into getting passports, and get back in touch with a baker I contacted some time ago and see if we can nail down a contract.

  • Congrats on all the accomplishments, ladies!!

I did a little bit more work on our centerpieces this past weekend, but I didn't make much progress. I love the way the mock up that I made turned out, and I know they're going to look great, they're just going to take me a considerable amount of time to make them. I'm really glad I started them so far out.

We also nailed down our honeymoon plans. Originally, we were going to spend a couple weeks in Europe, but due to training for his job, my fiance can't be gone for that long next summer. Plan B is to do a less extravagent honeymoon, and then save Europe for our 1st anniversay. We were thinking of going to New Orleans, but last night, he brought up the idea of checking out the Caribbean. Long story short, we decided to go to Puerto Rico. Turns out the cost is about the same as it would be to stay within the U.S., so we figured we might as well go for it. I'm really excited; I love to travel and can't wait to check out a new place!!
  • cnf- i didnt know you lived in the syracuse area. i just moved there.

My FI started calling hotels to figure out where we want to block rooms at and he also started looking at prices for limos! I would like to have the save the dates bought by the end of the week and also look into the invatitions!

Hey girlies! Wow, you guys are getting a lot done! Good job!! I am getting there! My dad made a piece of "fake driftwood" for our save the date pic because we are taking it on the beach in Cape Cod in a little over a week and a half! Wahooo, vacation! I am also a DIY bride, so I will be collecting purchasing several seashells, seaglass, etc for all my projects up there. Cape Cod has more natural land than here because everything here in NJ is highly regulated and controlled. You don't have to pay to get on the beach up there! Anyway, all these beach/nautical ideas are making me so excited because all that stuff is totally 100 percent me! I also finalized my bridal party and researched several dress choices for them, so I gotta make an appt to check these dresses out in personthey are Alfred Angelo. Meeting w/a potential photographer on Friday! Also I emailed the coordinator at our venue and got the floor plans he answered some key questions. I'm on my way! Happy planning!

</div><div>emilyb213 if you're thinking about going to Puerto Rico you should check out Vieques (a little island just off the "mainland") and Ceiba (on the "mainland").  We stayed at Casa de Tortuga on Vieques and it was FABULOUS and Ceiba Bed & Breakfast in Ceiba which was also really great!

  • Hmmmm, I didn't get too much done this week.  I contacted a day-of coordinator and will be meeting with her next Monday, ordered and picked up the lanterns for our centerpieces, FINALLY decided on wedding favors and contacted the photo booth guy for more information and picked out the embroidery design I want on my dress (now hopefully my FMIL is able to put that into her machine and make it work!)  I've also been tossing around the idea of including my 3 year old niece in the wedding party as a ring bearer.  She's the only one of the nieces/nephew that isn't participating and I feel so bad but the other kids are carrying lanterns and I don't think she's old enough for that.  Initially I didn't want flower girls or junior bridesmaids or a ring bearer but now I'm seriously reconsidering the ring bearer just so she can be involved.  I thought it might be kind of cute if she pulled one of those old wooden dogs on wheels behind her with the "rings" tied to it, LOL.

  • I found my dress! Such a great feeling :) We've also started looking into hotel room blocks, finalizing the guest list and researching florists.
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • We've started looking at hotels, I've emailed a few that I need to call back, but I just haven't gotten to it yet.  My daughter is painting our guest "book" thumbprint tree, we got some paint and poster board for her to practice on yesterday.  We got our guest list down, I think.  Tim announced the other day that there are probably some friends of his parents we need to include, and I told him he would have to find more of his guests to cut to accommodate them.  Our list is at 257, only 86 are mine, which I don't mind, I just think I've cut more than he has, and if he has more people to add, he needs to figure out which of his list is going to get cut.  He's fine with that, he's always going on about how there are some he probably doesn't have to invite, which is frustrating, because the idea was to get the list down to "must have" guests.  Boys, grr.

Today is exactly 10 months for me, so I'm glad things are moving forward!  I've also been working a lot of overtime this week to pay for the whole thing, does that count too?

  • I'm meeting with a third florist who is more expensive but has an awesome chuppah/canopy for rent. So I can either get a ton of flowers and a pain-in-the-a chuppah that I'll have to pay someone to assemble and disassemble - OR - I can rent this awesome chuppah and have small arrangements.

  • We have finalized our guest list and decided who we are definitely sending save the dates too. I corner FI during breakfast Sat and made him make his decisions once and for all. So it feels good not to think about that anymore. That's pretty much it for me this week.

  • I am going dress shopping for the third time tonight with my mom. They have 2 of the dresses I have already tried on and are strong contendors as well as some I couldnt find at other stores. I am going to bring my shoes with me too, to see if that will help me make a decision.

Meeting with the minister at the church we have reserved to hopefully get our marriage approved on Sunday. If so we will finally be able to start making payments on that.

We have 2 days picked out in October to go register at Macys and BBB. FI told me he doesnt want to do it all in one day.

We are hoping to book a hotel block by the end of the month. We really only have 2 choices.

e-pics are in less than a month! and hopefully setting up some cake tastings for the beginning of September.

mrsk, if you are going to book a photobooth, I would go test them out at a bridal show. There are an absoute ton of them coming up in September. Pretty much every single company is at every single show and they offer good deals if you book them right then and there. There were a couple companies that were really pushy, and I didnt like that. I ended up booking Shutterbooth.

Yay I finally have something to post here after weeks of doing nothing!

I picked up my veil this weekend from the store since it came in. Then went shopping for outfits for engagement photos and found a beautiful sun dress on sale at white house black market, it was originally $200 but was on sale for $80.

Fiance's parents were at a family wedding this weekend and since fiance hadn't yet been able to talk to his uncle yet about officiating for us they asked him. They said hes really excited and even planning to come down at the begining of next year to plan everything out with us a couple months before the wedding. I'm so relieved to have that figured out.

I've been trying to work on picking out the style of invites that I want becuase I want the invites and save the dates to have similar themes but its so hard finding ones with everything I want. They either have roses and no colors that can customize to aqua or cna customize but no roses :/ so just gotta keep looking.

  • I booked a block of hotel rooms this past week and today we have our first cake tasting! I think I am more excited than my fiance, I love free cake! This Sat we are meeting with a travel agent to try and nail down Honeymoon plans. We are looking at going to the Dominican Republic.

Lastly, I am trying to get my fiance to go through the guest list but he keeps putting it off. His list is double the size of mine and he needs to cut some people! He is too nice about inviting people, he wants to invite everyone he has ever met I think! Hopefully we can work that out because the more people you invite the more money it costs and we are already over budget!

My sister booked a place called Quik Picz at the bridal show at the Palace. She said the all-night package was $695, which included unlimited pics and a guestbook with a copy of each pic they give your guests. They were worth every penny. The photo booth operator was a young guy and he was really nice. He didn't get irritated by the kids (and adults) going in there repeatedly. My sister said the owner's name is Chris but she doesn't know the name of the guy who worked her wedding.

I'd go with them myself if I hadn't already paid a deposit with Fairytale Productions before her wedding.

We arent really doing a traditional wedding, we arent have flowers or centerpeices, a dj, mainly we cant afford all the extra things. And then having to switch venues im stuck on anything else untill we book the venue. We have one that we really love and i just have to wait a few more weeks to book it.. Then i can go from there. The most we are spending money on is the videography. Now...im waiting for a settlement from the VA and hoping to have it by the end of the yr, if i get that and all the backpay then i will be spending money and going crazy and rushing on everything. But its ok, i planned my moms and stepdads wedding in three weeks lol
  • We haven't done much the past few weeks. My father and I hashed out plans on how we want to set up the tents and bar/dance floor/dj area at my parents house. He also knows people who do a horse & carriage ride as well as people who rent out tents. So I'm waiting on him to contact those people for me.

I hate having to rely on others to get information for me. The only reason he is doing it for me is he can probably get a deal if he talks to them directly himself.

  • Wow, I've not got a thing to contribute on this one! The only thing I did was make sure nobody had severe allergies to flowers in case the hubby and I decide on a room full of real flowers as opposed to fake ones! LOL

  • I picked up my dress today and I love it! I changed the skirt (an awkwardly tiered skirt to a straight skirt) and color (ivory to white) of the sample dress so I wasn't quite sure what it was going to look like when it came in but I am SO happy with my decisions!

Last week we put a deposit down with a bakery. I didn't realize that people booked bakers so far in advance, but the bakery I booked with already had weddings booked for 2014!

FI is going to be converting to become Catholic and this week we got all of the information about the classes/process that he needs to go through.

Next on the list is looking at invitations and finalizing our save the dates!

To me it will always be Carousel mall! Ever since my FI started going to SU Law thats what it has been. So it will never be Destiny USA in my eyes! The new part is pretty sweet! FI and I went there with his parents to the new mexican restaurant and it was really good!

  • Uggh I feel like I'm falling behind reading all of our posts. Great job ladies for getting so much accomplished!

I've had a few meeting with florists which only one out of three went somewhat well. I have a few more to look into before I decide to DIY my centerpieces.

My FMIL offered to buy the veil I want and started talking about the rehersal diiner which is great because we were expecting to pay for the RD ourselves.

Other then that I got nothing, I still haven't booked our e-pics and even though we live together I hardly ever even see my FI to talk about them. When I do see him he just keeps asking when I'm going to be done with the planning and stop running around. I feel like it's never going to calm down for the next ten months!
    imageimageWedding Countdown Ticker
  • We had a cake tasting Sunday. It was disappointing. We thought the cake could have been better for the price. The $66 delivery fee was a surprise. We are considering going through a local lady that did my FI's grad cakes for our sheet cakes and getting our stacked cutting cake from a grocery store that has yummy cake and possibly just get our sheet cakes there as well.

I've pretty much failed on wedding planning this week. Starting a new job where I sit around all day doing "planning" and having a bazillion questions that aren't answered makes you really tired. I need to talk with the FI about floral again and send the either lady the deposit. No word back from the hotels so I guess I'll have to call.
