Cairnwood Ceremony + Reception Advice please! :)

Hi Ladies,
I was planning on having both our ceremony and reception at Cairnwood but now I'm beginning to think maybe the ceremony there is to short? We plan to be marrie dby a catholic priest and I don't want it to be rushed. Also we were thinking if we started our ceremony at 3 we would have the reception until 9. Do you think thats to early to end a reception? ..I'm getting nervous and trying to clear things up before I sign the contract. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

  • I am not too familiar with Cairnwood, but is there a Catholic Church on the premises? If so, even the smaller Catholic ceremony without mass is 1/2 an hour. I think that is plenty long enough.

Usually the cocktail hour + dinner + dancing is usually 5 hours. So, of you start cocktail hour at 4 and end at 9 I think that is fine. I think people will appreciate not having a gap between the ceremony & reception. If you only plan on having a 1/2 hour ceremony start it at 3:30.

  • I think ending at 9pm is perfectly fine, I don't think that is too early at all.

  • A Catholic priest will not perform a ceremony outside of a Catholic church or chapel, so you won't be able to have your ceremony onsite.

  • Our reception is at Cairnwood! But we're not having the ceremony there.

I know that the people at Cairnwood are really easy to deal with though. You can extend the time to have the reception pretty much as late as you want - ours is starting at 6 and going till midnight. The good thing about Cairnwood is that you have the facility for the entire day and it's all yours - no one else is allowed to have an event that day. Why don't you just start the ceremony a little later? Are you concerned that it may be dark for the ceremony?

Also, I was unaware that you could have a Catholic priest perform the marriage ceremony outside! Pretty cool. We're going to do ours at a church because it's important to our families, but I know Cairnwood is a GORGEOUS place to have ceremonies!

    Ok - that's what I thought too!

I know from my research into the area that there are a few Catholic churches nearby, but (not surprisingly) they aren't super welcoming to non-parishioners. We're actually having our ceremony in Philadelphia because of this. Something to consider if having a Catholic ceremony is important to you.
