saving cake for 1 year?

I'm all for most of the traditions but I'm not going to eat 1 year old cake. I think I'm just going to have the top remade close to our 1 year anniversary and eat it. It just bothers me lol.

Re: saving cake for 1 year?

  • I saved mine for our first anniversary. It tasted so awful that we threw it out. We also saved an unopened bottle of champagne. That was much better.

  • lol, such a funny tradition...im not doing this one.

  • We saved ours.  It was delicious, but I think my mom used a whole roll each of aluminum foil and saran wrap when she wrapped it up, and then it was in a deep freezer.

My best friend, on the other hand, said hers was awful, but she still says everyone should do it just because it's funny.
  • Traditions can get a little Weird. lol I'm not doing it.

  • We're saving it for our 1 month, then remaking whatever kind of cake we want for our one year.

  • We are not doing it either. The thought of year old cake just freaks me out. Instead, we're just going to go get a (fresh) mini red velvet cake, what our top tier will be, to eat on our one year anniversary.

  • I think it will be gross, but FI wants to do this one so we are eating nasty one year old cake.

This! My sister wrapped our top tier expertly, and it emerged from the deep freeze tasting at least as good as on our wedding day.  It was a lot of fun for us to relive moments of the wedding day on our anniversary by cutting into the cake a second time.

  • Our baker is making us a smaller cake for our first anniversary in the same flavor free of charge.  We were going to save our top tier but I think this will be a much tastier option.

  • We're saving ours.  But just in case it tastes horrible, we also plan on buying some gourmet cupcakes.

  • We are buying a new cake if we want one. My MOHs got us a special bottle of wine with a tag that says First Anniversary on it, so we are saving that for our 1 year.

  • Ya, we'll probably just have the top tier re-made for our anniversary.

I like the champagne idea. We're making wine for the wedding so maybe we'll save a bottle or two of that for our first anniversary.

  • Nah, we are going to pass.  I think the consensus is that it doesn't taste great after 1 year.  We won't need 1 year old cake to mark the occassion, I'm sure we'll find something just fine for our anniversary =]

That sounds amazing! This is the reason why I would want to save mine.
  • For my first marriage, I did this, and I mentioned to the bakery that we were planning on saving the top tier.  Oftentimes a good bakery will make it slightly differently (I think they infuse the cake with something so it stays moist when you defrost it) so that it will freeze well.  The real key though is how it's wrapped/frozen. It needs to be airtight.

One thing to remember: The wedding is just one day. The marriage is all the rest of them.

This is what our baker is doing as well. I would not try it after a year either.
  • My MOH just celebrated her anniversary and they had the baker re-make the top layer to look exactly like it did the day of the wedding. This is clearly the tasty way to approach this tradition.
