Venue problems

I have gotten nowhere with my planning. We are plannig a sept 2012 wedding and it seems all other brides have their venues, photo and djs booked. I know these are all the main things but I am having trouble getting started. We went to look at the first place last weekend, the parks in montgomery that were recommended to us. I was not too thrilled. Granted we are on a very small budget but to me it felt like a firhouse wedding just in a park. I want something nice but not expensive. My options so far only consit of parks, or firehouses. Nothing against either, I just never saw myself getting married in a fire house building or under a pavillion at a park.
One area at the montgomery park had a nice pond that would be awesome, but the pavilion is small. If it rains it would not accompany all of my guests and the dj and still have room for a dance floor.
I feel so overwhelemd and am feeling like I will never have the wedding I want. My bridesmaids keep telling me it wil be fine, we will make wherever it is beautiful. It just seems so unrealistic  :(

It will all work out and you will find the venue you want.  You just have to stay with it and do lots of research and visit tons of places.  You might get lucky and find your venue on the next shot.  Just keep with it and don't give up.  Remember too that some of the brides to which you are referring may not have your same budget so their options are more, that's all

I totally agree, keep with it! I totally know how you're feeling because I was so discouraged many times when we would go see a place and I had high hopes that it was "the one". What is your price per person?

We live in kerhonkson ny and my per person I am not sure really. We have no help and own our own home so we are trying to stay within a 3k budget.  The cheapest cateror I have found so far is $16 pp which is manageable but then I need a place to hold the event, with shelter incase of rain... Hoping to find the place for under $500.
    Thanks for your responses. :-)

What about a restaurant? My budget is $5000. I was thinking about a restaurant. I don't know what type of restaurants are in your area, but it may be worth it to look into. My Aunt got married in August, at a restaurant. She had about 50-60 people, open bar for 2 hours, and great food. They told her that not a lot of people had taken advantage of the open bar in the beginning, so they extended it with no extra cost! She had a reception from 12-5, and it was beautiful. Everything she said cost her $2500!!! She didn't have a DJ, she played an ipod, she had minimal flowers, and simple centerpieces. It really was intimate, and beautiful. I was really a day to remember, and something I have been thinking about myself. My FI and I have a favorite restaurant that's about 45 minutes away from us, and they said that they were willing to close down the restaurant as long as we have 50 people, or more. So.... like I said, worth a chance. Its not a firehouse, or a park.... so you won't know the answers unless you ask the questions! Good luck!

thanks. the only problem with that is I want to have a dj. even with my tiny budget I am trying to haveas close to a "real" wedding as possible. I want to be introduced and have our first dance and all that fun stuff.   I m going to talk with FI tonigt and see what he thinks about the firehouse. The money we save on the venue we could put toward decorations and make it nice.Plus at the firehouse I can make my own food (well have an uncle do it)  and aso save big there.  If a fire call happens during the reception, we will have to deal with it then.. :/

    Thanks for your help :)

Goodluck! Have a "potluck reception!" It will all work out, and what ever you choose, it will be beautiful!

My fiance is a DJ and i have been to lots of wedding with him...there is absolutly nothing wrong with a firehouse wedding!  There are many websites to  help to stay on your budget..linen tableclothes real cheap (cheaper then renting I found, plus you keep them and if not damaged during the night you can try to resell on ebay).  I'm a BIG DIY bride (luckly im saving on reception package bc we know an owner and not payin for dj bc he has friends in the biz too they are doing as our gift). But I have ordered my invitations from vistaprint.com (i love them and if there are problems they fix right away - sign up w them for big discouts).  I also saved by asking people to email response to a special email address. Im very crafty so im making centerpieces using b/w pics of us, table numbers, favors (take home homemade candy treats), seating cards, and much more.  I have got alot from oriental trading! As far as your dj...you get what you pay for...here are some tips however - sat day wedding will be cheaper if he is done in time to get to another gig after, sunday weddings also. Do your own music for ceremony (have a cd player near by (do music for while guests are arriving, prosessional and recesional) - depending on your "party ideas" you can ask your DJ to throw in some party props OR a second DJ (assistant) who will help really get people moving OR some free lighting.  And the biggest thing is to ask a dj BEFORE you sign a contract is for name/numbers of other brides he did weddings for and call them.  You can get a good dj for a 4 hr reception only for about $1000, maybe as low as $800.
    Good luck
