Bridal Shower in Another State

I live in AZ and my bridal shower is in PA where my family lives.  Has anyone done this before and have any advice?

    Or if you're comfortable with it, perhaps it could be a lingerie shower where it will be easier for you to bring gifts home in your suitcase.
    Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.

    My family did an out of state shower for me. Most understood and sent the gifts to us.  The stuff that I received at the shower, I either packed it or shipped it. (Macy's actually did it for free when I asked them).
    For the gifts I received before the shower, I took pictures of the item and displayed it on a board with names who gave me the gift at the shower.

    One of my friends had an out of state gift card shower.  If people intended it for a specific item, they just let them know.  It seemed a bit odd to me, but I can see there's a valid justification.

    I had a baby shower in MN for a friend of mine who lives across the country and as part of my gift to her I had everything shipped home.  It was outrageously expensive (like $300) so I thought about this quite a bit.  What I came up with is that if I ever have to do this again I'd either do a "gift card' shower or ask invitees to bring something "smaller than a shoebox".

    Yes. 

    My mom and I packed very lightly, but brought big duffle bags stuffed into our luggage. 

    On the trip home we packed the duffle bags with the gifts from the shower and checked them.  I think I carried a large purse and had a gift or two in that as well. 

    This only worked because I didn't receive much of anything breakable at the shower.  (Like dishes or glasses) and the breakable stuff I managed to fit in a carry-on for the plane so it was in my possesion the entire time and not being thrown around by airport staff.

    I am getting married in pa and having my shower there we live in VA.  Its prolly different for us because we can just pack up the car as we drive back and forth a lot.
