Discounts

Do any of you know what kinds of discounts airlines give or what ones? I was looking at tickets yesterday on kayak and our tickets to Hawaii are totaling around $2,000. Just wondering if any of you know anything TIA

Have you checked out southwest? I think they have a sale going on right now.

Specific discounts? Or just cheaper tickets? Southwest is great, but doesn't go everywhere. Supposedly the best time to buy tickets is Wednesday nights because.....something like new flights are announced then and they try to fill up others ones? I'm making up the details a bit but prices can be cheaper midweek.

Also, some airlines waive bag fees for active military, which is nice. I just found this link, not 100% sure how helpful it would be. Edit, make sure you look at the specifics of each airline though because some are only on orders, which wouldn't help in this situation. But when we flew Continental I think, we had H check both bags because it was free for him.

Also do not check the same site over and over again for ticket prices.  Little known fact the site will remember you if you doing it from the same computer and often times the price will chage a good bit because you are showing a large interest.

True story, I was checking flights daily for our girls trip to the DR and the flights kept getting more expensive.  I mean it would from $500.00 to $600.00 over night.  I mentioned that to a friend that was going and she check the same site on her computer and the same flight was $500.00 where as it was showing for me $600.00.  Same everything.

Also, Irish is right.  I work with international students and study aboard students and I always book the flights Wed, never on a Monday.

Thanks for the help everyone! I'll check out that link...cheaper tickets would be nice. I went through Kayak because they compared multiple lines but that was my first time looking

I signed up for email alerts from travelocity and kayak and they both send me offers based on my interests. If you are flexible with your plans it could really work in your favor.

Also, check out Armed Forces Crossroads(www.afcrossroads.com) at the bottom of the page look for 'Military Special Offers', there are a ton of offers/discounts on there and they explain who offers what and if there are any restrictions. Good luck!

Are you travelling with your FI? Many airlines actually have a military help desks and give SMs and their dependents discounted rates. You can save a lot this way, you'll have to call the airline and ask for the military line to do it. H and I do this every time we fly and we usually go with Delta since they're such a big company and flies everywhere. Luggages fees are also waived for military even when not in orders but not all airlines do that.

Also check flights on Bing. It has fare predictions and it has been right every time I've looked and used it.

I don't know about discounts but google has this really handy tool that gives you prices, airlines, and how the length of your stay affects your price. I was looking into taking a trip soon and it really helped me out. :)

    Good luck!
