  Also is do I need to have an engagement party as well? I'm an out os state bride and most of the people who will be attending the wedding live in another state. I will be in that state for about one week a year before the wedding and then two weeks before the wedding. Also when should showers and engagement parties take palce? I need Help!

  You don't host your own parties.  If your MIL wants to host a shower, that's fine, but you don't ask for one, either.  If no one has offered, you can tell your MIL that you aren't having one.
  
  You don't need a shower, or an engagement party.
  
  Just how small a ceremony are you having?  Unless it's under, like, twenty people, and really immediate family only, and maybe one or two (max) close friends on either side, it's bad etiquete to have a reception with guests who weren't invited to the wedding (if you're having a super-small ceremony, it's okay though).
  
  I'm honestly not sure the etiquette on who to invite to a shower when you're having an immediate family only ceremony; generally speaking, only those invited to the wedding are invited to the shower.

  I disagree with the above. It would be rude to invite guests to the ceremony but not the reception.
  
  To answer your questions:
  
  You don't need either an engagement or bridal shower. If someone offers to host one you may accept or decline. Don't host your own pre-wedding parties.
  
  For a female only bridal shower you may invite any ladies you want that are also invited to the ceremony/reception. Do not invite anyone who is not invited to the actual wedding.
  
  If it is a coed shower, again, only invite those invited to the wedding; however, they can be ladies or men.

  From what I've read from the ladies on here, unless it's a super-private ceremony, I gathered that you're not supposed to invite guests to the reception and not the ceremony. Also, of course, inviting people to the ceremony and not the reception is rude too. *shrug*

  Ok, so now I know I was going to through a reception for everyone including the people at my ceremony anyways but I probably could have worded it better. Sorry if there was a lot of confusion. I'm just really glad that I know now that the bridal shoer is offered and hosted by someone else (I thought that was only for the engagement party) and that only the people invited to wedding ceremony are to be invited. I wouuldn't want to be rude to someone by inviting them bu not inviting them to the cermony. Thank you for all your advice I appreciate it. :0
