programs

The escort cards post is really interesting, so I wanted to start one about programs to see what you all are doing.

We are going to have programs with brief descriptions of aspects of the Jewish ceremony.  We don't have a wedding party, so we're not going to be listing anyone, although we'll probably have the four guys carrying the chuppah (our brothers/FI's best friend) listed.  Haven't started them yet at all, though.

Hmmm...here is yet another thing I go back and forth on.  First I'm going to do them, then I decide not to because we only have 60 people and we're all spending the weekend together and everyone will know who is who, and then I think well it gives people something to look at while they wait and it would be cute to include the "what kind of tree are you" thing since we're getting married among the mountains and trees, and I could do a fan program since those are pretty easy and people could use them if it's warm, but it could also be very cold and then they'd just look stupid, so maybe I could figure out another design and then I go back to thinking I don't need one.

    Yeah, I'm a hot mess!

I'm making fans since we'll be outside in July.  On one side will have basic ceremony information and directions to the reception will be on the other.

i went back and forth as well. Initially i thought what a waste of time and money and then figured out a way to print them with a very simple design and cheap as well. Basically I opened a word document, changed the orientation to landscape, made the page into two columns. Typed up a simple program and added my monogram and some design aspects i had saved. I wll print them at staples and then cut the 8x10 sheet in half. ( i will get two programs per page printed)

this keeps a couple key family members happy that there are programs but they will not cost a lot or be that much work (and i wont mind throwing a bunch out-- which is what will happen).

when i have them done i will post a pic, but i am in my last week of college and wont be working on them until next monday.

You know what's funny about this particular issue? I always thought that we'd cut these out if we needed to clip funds....then I attended a wedding without the programs. I realized the importance of them (at least to me) when I didn't get one. I had no idea who anyone was, except the bride & groom, no idea what relationships they shared, and I realized, I wouldn't want my guests to be uninformed.

As for design, I'm unsure, but I want to go pretty traditional on this. I gave this task to my MOH/younger sister because I needed it taken off my plate during finals...so she'll start it and I'll finish it. I asked her to look at Martha Stewart weddings for a template.

I also intend to include the following elements:
    1. who is who and how everyone is related to bride/groom
    2. information about the mass/ceremony
    3. statements from the bride & groom
    4. other things...

...maybe more later...my computer is out of juice!

I've actually never seen a program at a wedding and don't plan on doing one. I might have a page with directions to the reception site. Not sure.
