Rome Hotel Recommendation!

Hi there! I am going to Italy for my honeymoon & looking for any ideas you may have on a hotel for the first night in Rome and then heading to Tuscany for the week (that is all booked). I have been searching online and it is so overwhelming! We are looking for spend 200-300 euros and stay around the Spanish Steps/Trevi Fountain area. Does not have to be right there but just in the area. I would love a hotel that is nice comfortable romantic, not too modern but has character.

If anyone can help I would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I have not been there, but I am planning to go next September and justbought Rick Steves' Guide to Rome 2010 (which is awsome btw) and have been using it to find a hotel also. I highly recommend it. Steves will tell you the highlights of his favorite hotels in Rome, including the atmosphere. TripAdvisor.com would be better to show you the details.

Here's a website I found to look up hotels in Rome, but I'm not sure if it's any good. Maybe you can use it as a starting point.

    I hope this helps!

  • I've stayed at the Rose Garden Palace which is near the American Embassy, so it's quite ritzy.  Also stayed at the Hotel Rafaello, which has amazing reviews from Tripadvisor, but is definitely not a luxurious hotel.  You could probably ask for a suite to make sure you get the best rooms at the RGP.
  • Thanks!! I have been on Tripadvisor constantly while planning this trip and that website is great! I'll check those recs out!

  • If you want more recs, I'd check on the nest travel board.  More People have stayed in Italy there.
  • dh and i stayed at hotel fontana which overlooks the trevi. fabulous place. might be a bit more than yourbudget but worth it!
where are you going in tuscany? dh and i are spending a week there in radda  (se siggy) next month.

  • We're staying at visconti palace in rome and our TA told us it was amazing when she stayed there.  It's about $250 for us for a night, and it's apparently quite modern.

  • i also stayed at the Fontana... I would highly recommend it.. Though it was 2 years ago...

i promised myself that i would NEVER go back to Rome without my FI. I went with my MOH (before i met my fi) and was just so sketched out by the men there. Rude, awful, cat-calling, they just don't care!

    Be careful! :)
Also, have lunch outside the Pantheon if you can, DELICIOUS!!!

Just an FYI- they don't care if you're with a guy either, and I guess it says lot's about me that I never really had that problem in Rome, but did have it in the town I lived in, further north.  I was walking down the street, holding hands with my H when  a guy walked up to me, stroked his hand down my arm and said, "Ciao, bella" *shivers*  Skeeves me out every time I think about it.  I yelled at him in English and he backed away because that's not the normal Italian female response.

Oh my goodness! When my Mom and I went to Rome we kept having men (who must have known we were english because they would speak in english, although pretty broken) saying how we must be sisters and that we both had the most beautiful eyes (yeah right), and always grabbing your hands and such. haha. After the 3rd man did that I asked if that was a compliment to my Mom saying she looked young, or if I should be offended that I look that much older, and then gave him the stink eye. He walked away. lol =]
  • We stayed at the Hotel Majestic for the first 4 nights of our honeymoon.  It was less than a 10 minute walk to each the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain.  I liked being close to all of the sights but not in the middle of the tourists and chaos so it was a perfect location.  Rome is actually a very walkable city and we walked everywhere from our hotel, even to the Vatican and back.

Check out the Hotel Majestic.  It has a ton of character but is also modern and luxurious.  The hotel concierge was wonderful as well.
  • We actually found an apartment to rent through trip advisor that was super cheap!  On the website, go under vacation rentals and sort by nightly rate to find ones that will rent out by the night instead of by the week.  It was 3 years ago, so I don't remember exactly what we paid or what it cost. :(  But it was in the Trastevere neighborhood, which we found very cute and very fun!
