Videographer?

Hi ladies - my wedding is in May 2010, and I really hadn't planned/budgeted for a videographer.  Can anyone tell me if they think it's TOTALLY worth it to have one?  Also, any recommendations for someone who is thinking of this as an afterthought (ie, not too pricey)?  I appreciate any advice!

I originally did not think I needed a videographer, but after reading such raves about them on here and then checking out trailers on various websites, I felt that I would regret it later if I skipped it.

Matt Pine from Lifetime gets rave after rave on here.  His work is amazing but he is expensive.  There was no way I could spend $3000 on video.  We also met with Dan Schallenberger of Poetic Cinema and Jeff Harper.  I personally feel that both are just as talented as Lifetime but not as expensive.  All three have a slightly different style but all equally as brilliant.  Jeff Harper was the least expensive of the three.

We booked with Dan Shallenberger mainly because my fiance really liked his personality.  He worked with Matt Pine at Lifetime for 4 years and just recently started his own company.

I recommend meeting with some videographers and look at what they have to offer.  Most ladies on here that did not do video really regretted it later.  It was not originally in our budget but I am very happy we met Dan and will be working with him.

I'm in the same boat as you.  So I went out and found 3 companies under 1k but what I would consider be worth more than they charge.  I'm leaning more towards Maurice myself.

Like pp, I originally had not budgeted for a videographer.  FI and I thought it was an expense that wouldn't be worth it because we would probably watch the video once then pack it away and never watch it again.  One of my friends got married in September last year and used Matt Pine (Lifetime).  He posted a highlights video and trailer for her video on facebook and when I saw it I emailed him immediately to meet with him.  Fortunately he wasn't booked yet for the date of my wedding, so we decided to use him.  Yes, Matt is expensive but IMO he is definitely worth it.  For me, it was an all or nothing thing.  It was either spend the money and book Matt or not have one at all.  Even if he is a little out of your price range I would still recommend meeting with him to see what he has to say.

I got married back in October and I really didn't want to put forth the extra money for a videographer. I thought having 2-3 photographers was enough and would capture everything. A month away from our wedding my DH and i decided to get one and it was the best decision and so glad we decided to get one. We used Lifetime Video. Our "trailer" was great and looking forward to seeing the rest (we haven't received it yet).

You have to do what's within your budget, but let me at least leave you with this.... there are moments throughout your wedding day you will remember, but there will also be those moments you don't remember very clearly or moments you might have missed while doing something else. The day goes by so fast... I promise!!! So, having a videographer you get to see those moments you may have missed, every detail of your day, and you can go back and hear your vowels, see your husbands reaction as you walk down the aisle, listen to your maid of honor and best mans speech again, see people at your cocktail hour mingle etc.

I missed my DH reaction as I walked down the aisle b/c I couldn't see that far down (the aisle was VERY long) lol. If I didn't have the video... I would have never seen his reaction and let me tell you it was a good one (we are one lifetime video's blog ... Jessica & Mike if you want to see it) :).

Good luck on your decision, but I say go for it... you won't regret it!!!!

He is a professional videographer for a local tv station and shoots weddings and other events on the side. He has a few sample videoes he can send you. I'd definitely check him out!

We didn't plan on using a videographer for our wedding, either.  It never even crossed our minds.  The more we thought about it, the more we realized we would really love to have more than just photos for the rest of our lives.  Video captures so much more than pictures can.  We used Matt w/ Lifetime and absolutely LOVE HIM!  He has gone above and beyond for us and we haven't looked back.  Our teaser is up currently (I want to say its the second one from the top right now) and we can't stop watching it!  Matt is wonderful beyond words could ever express.  Def worth the money.  At least call him and see what he can work out for you.  GL!!

Another vote for Lifetime Video.  I'd say more, but I probably say it best in the "reviews" page of my married bio.  Matt Pine is fan-freaking-tastic at what he does -- a true artist with a video camera and editing equipment -- and a phenomenal human being to boot.

Definitely at least give him a call to see what he can work out for you.
