Caterer wont call me back

I have been trying for a few days to get into contact with a caterer I want to check out. We have really high hopes for them; they seem to be exactly what we're looking for. The problem is, they wont return my call. I actually got through to talk to a woman yesterday that said they'd make an apt with me asap, but they have not called yet. Is this normal for vendors? I am DIYing most everything and have little experience working with vendors at all.

I had some issues with that on some of my vendors, as well. Once you actually book with them, you'll hold their attention more... but sometimes they're just a little flaky in the beginning.

Are they just a caterer, or are they a restaurant that caters? I've found that any time they're a double-duty sort of business like that... or something one person runs as a side business (like a lot of florists, DJs, and DOCs) it's a little harder to get their attention until you've signed a contract.

Give 'em another try. Call them again and see if you can get any further in the process. If it's still not working, start looking elsewhere.

    Ditto Maybe...

Have you tried sending an email? Some people are better at email communication.

I wouldn't work with anyone who wasn't interested in my business.

If you email them (or call again and leave a message) it is OK to give a reasonable timeframe in which you expect a response.  ie "I would appreciate hearing back from you by the end of the week."

Ditto Ehathewa- if they can't call you back, it isn't worth your time.  Give them a reasonable timeframe to get back to you and if they aren't able to do that, move on.  I had to do that with 2 vendors I was excited to work with (a videographer and a classic car service).  Both lost my business to other companies and when they finally did return my calls, I told them as much.
