Registries

Where all did you guys register?  We keep going back and forth with a few places.  Looking for the good, the bad, and the ugly before we make a decision!

Re: Registries

We registered at Macy's and Target - both places that our out of town guests could have access to if they choose to look up the registries.

The only problem with Target is that SO many of their items are seasonal and their inventory changes often. We were just updating our registry the other day and realized that the ivory towels that we registered for are now in limited supply, so we changed to another brand for ivory towels. So, while you can find everything that you want at Target, you may have to keep a much closer eye on your registry.

Many people use Bed Bath and Beyond - their selection is very similar to Macy's so it might be a good idea to use them and Macy's if you have guests that are close to one but not the other (otherwise you're possibly just duplicating efforts).

We have registered at Bed Bath and Beyond and Macy's.  Both have been wonderful to work with, and I have heard nothing but good things about them.

I would highly recommend NOT registering at Target.  In addition to the issues with their inventory changing often, I have heard horror stories about their return policy.  Apparently if you don't have a receipt, you only get 2 returns per year, even if you can show that you received the item on your registry.  And they dont' update the registry often enough to prevent you from getting duplicates.  Hence, lots of people end up with duplicates they can't return.

We registered at Bed Bath & Beyond and Sears. I would be very cautious of registering at Target b/c of their return policy. I have heard so many horror stories about them not allowing brides (or moms-to-be) to return duplicated gifts from their registerys. If you want to register at Target, I would at least call to find out about their return policy - it might have changed since then??

One of my friends just got married in October and she used Macy's, Bed Bath and Beyond and Crate and Barrel.  I love Crate and Barrel; they have a lot of kitchen stuff and cute home decorations.  You can update your registry online and check things off as you receive presents.

Agreed- I used to work at Target ages ago, and people would be pissed after a wedding for a return session. They got only trouble and the target product cycles so fast, that they wouldnt return half. I registered at BBB and Macys and have had no trouble at all - in fact, the downtown Macys location is where I started my registry and I can tell you they are aweesome. I know we wouldnt get that service anywhere else. The director of the registry there calls us or emails us when things are on sale now after our wedding and she works with us to get the best deals possible.
    Good luck!

I registered at Macy's, Crate and Barrel, and Bed Bath and Beyond.  The only complaint I have on any is BBB- only because I registered online and they didn't really have anything that I registered for online in the store.  I ended up having to go to BBB in person and completely re-doing my registry.

We just did Bed Bath and Beyond this week. We are also registering on amazon.com. We will probably add Sears because we really want Lands End bamboo-cotton towels and they're the only place that carries them (in addition to other things of course).

I would say definitely look at WHAT you are registering for. FI and I are huge Consumer Reports followers and BB&B just didn't have a lot of the products we wanted. (Don't get me wrong, they have tons of awesome items, but just not those top-rated appliances, sheets, or towels.) I'd also say look at what china you will be registering for and start at that store.

It really depends on what you're looking for, as well as your guests.  A large number of my guests came from a tiny, rural area.  The nearest real store was 40 miles away, so I registered for some things at Wally world.  I got some really good stuff from there, surprisingly (crock pots, floor steamer, safe, etc.).  We also registered at BBB, and they were great.  I got my better things from there.  Their return policy is amazing- when Linens and things went out of business, I found a ton of my place settings for next to nothing.  I returned the items I already had to BBB and made some money (don't tell my guests ;)

Look around.  What do you need?  Go to the store that has what you want.  I've also heard horror stories of Target.

Where didn't we register lol. We registered at BBB, Crate and Barrel, Macy, and Pottery Barn. Loved Crate and Barrel. They just modified their registry return policy so you might want to ask. I really liked each of them. We had a lot of people from out of town so the variety helped a lot. A lot of Chicago guests bought from Crate and Barrel. Hope that helps! Have fun.

Bed, Bath, and Beyond!  I went to the Deerfield Store because they have a special wedding section!  They were SUPER friendly and helpful and just made me feel like a princess!  I have changed my registry online numerous times and it is so quick and simple!

We also registered at Sears mainly for tools for the fiance.  That was a VERY frustrating experience!  It took over 30 minutes to find someone in the store that even knew they had a registry system, much less how to set one up!  Then the system was down and we had to go back another day to actually scan in items.  The second time there, the scanner kept going out and each time we had to run back upstairs to get one particular person to type in their password to reset it.  Let's just say that there are very few things on our registry from Sears!

We're registered at BBB. Beyond having a lot of the stuff we're looking for,

    - Fantastic return policy-- don't need a receipt, don't have a deadline

    - Registry incentives -- register for so much, get a gift/ have gifts get so much, get a gift

    - They let us stay well after the store closed, and throughout our experience, everyone was nothing but friendly and helpful.

I ditto the Target claim. I will not register at Target, and I've even stopped shopping at Target for any gifts because of their return policy.

We did Macys, Amazon, and Sterling Cut Glass for monogrammed barware and pretty serving platters.  Thinking of adding William Sonoma for kitchen stuff that Macy's didn't have.

Amazon is great because we registered for electronics like a camera, video camera. etc.!
