August 2012 Weddings

Anxiety? Or sick?

So, since last Monday, my stomach has been giving me all kinds of issues.  I feel like the wedding is all under control and can't wait to marry my FI and get on our honeymoon!
Everyone (including my doctor) thinks my stomach issues are anxiety.  The doctor wrote me a script for Xanax, but I'm apprehensive about taking it, because I don't know how it will affect me, and she warned it could make me sleepy.
I've never had anxiety issues before....  is anyone else having problems?  Any advice besides walking (blood moving), water (stay hydrated), and eating bananas, apples, and rice?

Re: Anxiety? Or sick?

  • I am having stomach issues here too, but I think mine is hormonal. I just keep hydrating and I am trying not to do anything different from before.
  • Our bodies tend to react to stress even if we don't think we're stressed.   I would recommend exercise and massage to see if that helps at all.

  • My tummy has been out of control. I have been trying to drink lots of tea.
  • I guarantee it's stress and anxiety.

DO NOT TAKE THE XANAX unless you feel a panic attack coming on. Seriously that sh!t is the DEVIL.

I suffer from OCD and Panic / Anxiety issues and I've taken xanax, zoloft, paxil, celexa, etc. You don't want to take those unless it's absolutely necessary. I'm off meds regardless that my anxiety usually causes me to be batsh!t crazy and feel ill all the time.

The only advice I can offer you is to do deep breathing exercises and try to relax as much as possible. For me I dive into a book or a video game to get my mind off of things and my anxiety melts away. Have FI give you back rubs too - those always help :)

I hope all you ladies feel better soon!!

  • I think you have the right idea about trying to eat basic foods.  Even if it is stress related, I would do a "bland" diet as non-bland foods might contribute to making it worse, so I would avoid anything greasy or spicy.  If you problems persist after your wedding you may want to see your doc again, especially if you have a family history of any sort of GI problems.

Agreed with Christine although it's VERY Unlikely you just started having GI problems a week / 2 weeks before your wedding. I would say it must be stress.

  • I'm having the same issue too. Just do something that helps you relax. For me, it is running. So I've been scheduling a 20 minute jog into my day, every day. Even on the morning of the wedding, to releive some of the anxiety. Just take a deep breath, and don't think about too much. Just take everything one step at a time, and enjoy it.

I will also 2nd the bland diet. It will help.

I have actually been making fresh mint tea. I read somewhere that her bride had bouquet wrapped in mint to easy her anxiety as she walked down the aisle.
  • When I get stressed my stomach is the first sign. I would avoid the meds if you can. Excersize is great for anxiety. If you feel an attack coming on a simple walk can do wonders. I'm getting married sat and plan on some yoga to help keep me mello Also if it's true anxiety avoid caffine it can make it worst.

  • Try taking a non sleepy dramamine.  See if that helps...if it does you know it is stress...Dramamine really just relaxes you...I take it all the time and actually bought some for my wedding day as I know I wil be a bundle of nerves.

  • Thanks for all the advice!  FI makes awesome mint tea, so I will have some of that and try going for a walk.  Also have been taking advantage of FI's back rubs :)  Good luck!
