Hotels Downtown

My wedding is on 11/19/11 at The Smith Brother's Loft. We have about 10+ friends coming from New York and one of them asked me about hotel recommendations so they could book early and plan how much to save (we all graduated within the past 2 years and are all looking for something budget friendly). I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for hotels near the Arena District that are decent priced? I'm planning on booking a room for the night of our wedding and to get ready in the day of. One issue I forsee is the Ohio State v. Penn State game is at home the night of my wedding which will probably cause a spike in prices. Any help is appreciated :) Thanks!

    You can contact experiencecolumbus, tell them what you are looking for, and they contact the hotels, which get back to you with bids. That may be the best bet if you want everyone in the same hotel.

    We are using the Holiday Inn Downtown, I think it's 100 or so a night.  There's also one near campus.  You can call them and see if they have any availabilites. 

    You probably want to get on hotels ASAP since there's a big game that weekend.

    Call around and ask about setting up blocks at a preferred rate.  We ended up at the Renaissance for 109/night, but you can also try the Hyatt and Crowne Plaza or any of the others by the convention center (Google Columbus downtown hotels and a map of them will pull up).

    short north has one hotel i think (hampton inn maybe?). the best deal is the drury inn (less than 100 per night). it's right by the convention center and very very very close to the loft.

    We got the Renaissance Downtown for $99/night with $15/day valet parking (normally $30 for valet but definitely negotiate!). There is a Red Roof Inn on Ackerman and Olentangy that is only $60/night and in a great location if you want something really budget friendly.

    We also got the Renaissance for $99 a night. Beautiful hotel, and we stayed there our wedding night and had a wonderful experience.

    We are also using the Holiday Inn. We got a rate of $89/night even for NYE.

    We set up a block with Drury Inn for $89/night, and I had probably 15 people tell me at the brunch Sunday morning how nice that hotel was (I've never stayed there myself).  I can say that even though you go through a national line to set up the block, those folks were sooo sweet and accomidating.  I was emailed a list once a month of everyone that had booked under our name, and when I was requesting a list every other day the month of the wedding, I received it almost immediately with no trouble at all.  
    The folks at the front desk were also very nice and accomidating when I stopped in to drop off our 'welcome bags', even though it was a crazy weekend for them (of course I planned my downtown wedding the same weekend as the columbus marathon!)

    Oh, and I don't think football games typically drive up hotel costs downtown.  What does drive up the cost are conferences, especially if it's being hosted in that hotel.   Calling downtown hotels now is a good idea, I swear there is a national conference being held somewhere in the this city every day.
