Lowndes Grove. Unreasonable?

I am newly engaged and getting married in Charleston in the fall of next year. My FI and I looked at wedding venues last weekend and we fell in love with Lowndes Grove. We have a date on hold for us while we review the contract. I understand that Charleston is a wedding machine and these places can pretty much do what they want, but their contract and fees seem a little much. Has anyone had their wedding or planning their wedding at Lowndes? What are your experiences or thoughts? I am not sure if I should start looking for somewhere else.

My wedding in March is at Lowndes Grove. It's expensive, but it's the perfect place for me and FI to tie the knot. We just love it.

I've had nothing but wonderful experiences working with Patrick Properties. The girl I'm working with at LG (Amber) is wonderful and accommodating. I can almost always get on site when I need to. There are no vendor restrictions (caterer aside), so I'm able to bring in whoever I want.

One thing we did do to save a bit of money was move the wedding out of peak season. Bumping to the last weekend of March eliminated the F&B minimum. I think peak is April, May, September and October, but I could be wrong. Your contact at PP should be able to verify. I don't know if that's an option, but it worked for us.

It really comes down to a couple things:
    1) Does LG fit in your budget?
    2) Is it worth it to you to pay that amount to get married at LG?

For us, it makes sense. It won't for everyone. We're really excited to be getting married there, and the people I've been working with only make it better.

ETA: I'm happy to answer any other questions you may have! Just PM me! :)

Thanks for the quick reply and positive feedback! I would try to PM you but I seem I haven't figured it out yet. We have a hold on a Friday in the fall. All Saturdays were already gone. But having it on a Friday means no F&B peak season costs. So really we are just trying to figure if we want to pay for LG. We have two weeks to make our decision. We are also looking at Boones Hall Plantation on Friday.

We looked at Lowndes Grove and we loved it...but the price was too much for us...we went with the Thomas Bennett House instead.

Mieke - at the bottom of my post there's a button that says "Private Message" you can click. It should take you to a form to send a message. :)

I can tell you that, being a destination bride like you, they've been REALLY accommodating and easy to work with.

Let me know if I can be of any more assistance! :)

After finally realizing how much Lowndes Grove was going to cost, we finally decided on an alternate location... My FI's parents house! They have a nationally registered historic home in downtown Charleston! I still love Lowndes and will miss the riverfront ceremony site. But we have something so unique and personal to us that using his parents house now seems like a no brainer! I can't believe it took me so long to realize this!
