Ribbon Wands

I am thinking about doing ribbon Wands for my wedding.  Anyone else doing them?

If you don't know what they are: http://www.etsy.com/search?includes%5B0%5D=tags&q=wedding+wands+with+bells&ref=related&page=1

I think I will make my own.

  • Me!! I plan to do em. I debated on whether to just purchase them from a company or to just DIY. Since my bridesmaids & friends eagerly offered to help assemble them, I think that's the route I'll take. I can't wait, I'm so excited to get started.

  • Soooo DIY(able). I started mine 2 weeks ago and got the supplies from Micheals. It's very simple but it's hard to find a great glue. Don't use a glue gun because it won't stick to the wooden sticks if that's the kind you decide to use. I used E-6000, mainly because I used it on almost all my projects but works really good. You just have to hold the ribbon in place for a few to let it bond other than that it is great.

  • My colors are red, black and ivory. I don't plan on using glue. I am going to get the eye hooks I believe that's what they are called. I will drill a hold at the top of the stick and that's where I will screw in the eye hook. The ribbon will be tied to the hook. I am excited to DIY.

  • Hi... I'm doing them. As a matter of fact, I completed my first prototype today... I'm having a HARD time with getting the screw eyes in. FI and his daughter (she's 10) had a much easier time than me!

My colors are purple, orange and yellow. I spent a ton of $ on ribbon at Michael's (even with coupons), but I went to Downtown L.A. today and got more for MUCH less. I hope you can find some. For the sticks, I bought them at Home Depot. They were four feet long and they cut them for me into 12 inch pieces. FI keeps saying that I should have made them longer and today when I was waving my prototype in the mirror I kinda agree (except that I got many more sticks by cutting them into 12 instead of 18 inches).

The worst part for me is that I've rolled it up, but I can't get it to stay together. The lady uses scotch tape on the video, but I thought it was ugly, so I bought some heart seals (like for scrapbooking). They're not working.

Oh... the other thing that I did that I didn't see on any of the DIY sites is that I bought gold spray paint and after putting the screw eyes in, I spray painted it (I plan to do all of the eye hooks first, then spray paint, then put the ribbon on).

Oh yeah... I bought bells too to attach, but I'm on the fence as to whether I'll use them. And... what else... I bought some fray guard (I forgot what it's called) to put at the end of the ribbon so that it doesn't fray.

I'm making about 160 of them, so I invited a bunch of people over and we're going to make a party of it. Hopefully a bunch of drunk chicks drinking wine can still make ribbon wands that aren't too cockeyed...
  • Meja1 sounds like you have a plan. I plan to spray paint mine too. I was going to roll them up then I thought people may not be able to get them apart. I am having everything at one place and eveyone will be seated around tables. I am trying to decide where I will place them. I guess on the table. I just need to do my sample. My MOH said she would help and I know someothers will too. I need to make 135.
