Marros in Rye

Hi Guys,

During my venue hunt, a fellow knottie suggested Colonial Caterers and now I've got Marros in Rye on my radar.
Was just wondering if you guys have any feedback, experiences with Colonial Caterers/ Marros in Rye.
Would love to hear anything you have to share.

Thanks!

Colonial Caterers and Jean Jacques have combined and they now refer to themselves as "Jean Jacques Colonial" (Though they maintain their seperate websites)

Personally, I haven't been to Marros but I know people that have been to weddings there and they say it is a gorgeous space. It is on the grounds of a church, I think a Greek Orthadox Church, so that is something to keep in mind.

I can tell you first hand that the caterer is AMAZING! They are really wonderful people to work with and the food is outstanding. I think what you get for the price is very good for the quality, quantity and selection compared to the other venues I looked at.

I looked at Marros when I was searching for a venue.  Here are some of the things I liked and didn't like:

    The positives:
-has a pretty outdoor patio cocktail area
-the church and hallways have really cool details
    -spacious ballroom
-you have the ability to decorate it any way you like
-there was a stage in the ballroom where your band could play

    the negatives:

-I wasn't thrilled with the catering wedding menu.  The food seemed like standard wedding food, and since my fiance is a chef, we wanted something more special.
-there was no alternate ceremony space if it rained
-the outdoor ceremony space backed up to a highway, so you could hear cars and traffic
-the ballroom felt "tired" and dated...you would need a large budget for flowers, rentals, and decorating

Have you looked into the Wainwright House (which is also in Rye)?  I fell in looove with that location.

    Hope this helped!

thank you thank you!  That feedback is EXACTLY what I was looking for!  I really appreciate it.  Haven't gotten to check out the venue yet because I'm in Boston, heading down to NY actually in the next hour to visit a couple places (Waterview in CT and VIP in New Ro. but Marros couldn't fit us in (I didn't give them too much notice) so I'll be sending my parents to go check it out hopefully next week.  Will look into the Wrainwright house too.

    Thanks again!

Oh, I hope you book Wainwright House!  Unfortunately our guest list was too large for that location.  Plus it would have been really risky to have a tented reception in mid July!

    Good luck!

I just want to add my input as well-- I totally agree that Marros looked very dated and tired when I went and vistied it last summer-- but absolutely fell in love with the gorgeous bones the place had-- & to my absolute suprise and satisfaction- they have decided to completely redo and revitalize the inside with a decorator-- new paint, new carpets, better drapery- the works. For me- it was problem solved, and money saved in decor.  The place is really good and has *oh so much* potential, for a bride with a big vision.  :)
