I can't find any BM dresses in my color!!

Hi girls!!

I'm so frustrated, I can't find any bridesmaid dresses that I love in our wedding color! Our main color is a light mint green. I know it is not the most common color, but thats what we love about it! I didn't think it would be so difficult to find BM dresses I love in that color! I know green weddings have been fairly popular recently, but it seems those are mostly an apple, sage, olive, or forest shade of green, which are all beautiful, just not the color scheme we were going for. I've found so many dresses I love, but they all come in the wrong shade of green! UGH!! I took some of my girls to try on dresses last weekend, and I found myself almost considering settling for a dress that I didn't love, just because it was the only line that came in the mint color!

What would you do?? Get a neutral colored dress (black, gray, beige) and just use the green as accents? Choose a dress you love in a different shade, which means pretty much changing your color scheme? Choose a dress that you don't love but will do, because it comes in the right color? HELP!! Cry

  • I would probably get a neutral colored dress that you love and accent with the light mint green and then have the groomsmen in the same light mint green color!  I would not change your color scheme because it's what you guys really want!  Don't settle for a dress you don't love because then you won't love them the day of or in the pictures!

  • I had to do this for our color. I had always imagined the girls in a coral pink color, but i could never find the right shade, and when I did, the dresses weren't flattering. I ended up choosing a navy colored dress for the girls and I am just going to add in the color in flowers and the decor.

I hope this helps and good luck!

  • @karlyed326  I just bought the same bridesmaids dresses as your siggy pic last night! :D  They are soo beautiful!  My girls fell in love with them the second they put them on- plus right now DB in Canada is have a $20 off each bridesmaids dress, so I got them for a great price :)

@Jess715  I would also say go in a neutral colour and accent with the green.  Our colours are also an odd shade of green and a deep chocolate brown, when we went yesterday to try on dresses non of us particularily liked the shade or fabric in the green that was **closest** to the colour I originally envisionned my ladies in, but the brown was spot on and absolutely BEAUTIFUL against all of the girl's skin tones, so we went with brown and will encorporate the green in their bouquets or something!  A nice beige, grey, or black with a mint green accent will be gorgeous :)

    Happy Shopping,

  • Did you check the Dessy website? They have a color called Celadon that's a lighter minty shade of green (they also have a color called Mint, but it's darker). Not sure if that's the exact look you're going for though.

Also, you may want to take a look at Etsy. There are tons of dress makers on there that do those twisty wrap dresses you can tie a million ways, and you can indicate what color you'd like with a lot of them.

Sorry, I know how frustrating this is. I had a terrible time finding the "right" shade of pinky peach last fall, so I chose more of a neutral nude color, and now of course the darn shade is everywhere. Ah well, good luck!

Ohh clemence celadon is a beautiful color!

Where have you already looked for dresses, jess? Did you try David's? They have a ton of colors, and they frequently look different in store to online. You can always ask them for a sample, see if it's anything like you were looking for. They have a bunch of greens, too.
  • My bridesmaid dress for my friend's wedding is from J. Crew, and it's a light green color (although it's got a little bit of a blue tone) - it's called Dusty Shale.  If you can't find anything that works, I think gray and light green accents would look beautiful!

  • I would recommend the Alfred Sung collection (part of Dessy) and looking at the color called "Fresh."  Here's a link, just click on the correct color: http://www.dessy.com/dresses/bridesmaid/D538/#.Txly2YHCt2A

My sister was in the same boat a few years ago.  She wanted a grass/kelly green and dresses just weren't out there in that color.  She ended up going with bright magenta/pink dresses and used her green shade as an accent.  She was bummed.  I think right now, if you search enough designers, you should be able to find what you want.

Another designer: Jordan - here's their color swatches: http://www.jordanfashions.com/ShowSwatches.aspx?dressid=1455 and Mackenzie Michaels: http://www.mackenziemichaels.com/shtml/card.php?style=88240

  • I second Kate's suggestion above about J Crew dresses in dusty shale. Those are the first thing I thought of when you described your color.
