July 2012 Weddings

cocktail hour details

We have been talking about ordering some of those supercute striped straws that are on all the wedding blogs lately, as well as some pretty monogrammed napkins just for the cocktail hour.

Has anyone else ordered straws and/or napkins yet? if so, where did you order?? We just want this to be a cute little detail, not something we spend too much money on...

Also, how many did you order?? if we are expecting somewhere around 200-220 guests, how many should we order?

Thanks ladies :) have a great day everyone!

We thought about doing this, but we would probably only order like 50-75 and we have the same amount of people you do. We were going to see if Exclusively weddings weren't expensive we would order them from there.  I know you get them on Etsy too, and on TK.

  • Lol thanks for the idea!!  I am going to buy mine off of amazon.  We invited 230 guests I am going to order a pink and green package so its $25 for 288 of them.

  • We almost ordered cute napkins until my dad said that they'd just end up in the trash anyway. I was disappointed but decided to use our money for something else!

I really think they're cute though!

This.  No one will remember them and they didn't make sense for us.
  • I bought straws in light pink, light peach, ivory and black. I ended up buying 200 - 50 of each. I know they're a waste, but they're cute.

Here's the person I bought from: www.thesugardiva.com (She also has a bunch of other details, but I haven't yet decided on those yet.)

Quality is fantastic and they were cheap. AND she shipped them in less than a week! Good to know in case you want/need more at some point.

Weirdly, I actually do still remember the napkins that my friend had at her wedding two years ago. They said "Eat, Drink and Be Married" and it was the first time I had seen that phrase so I was like, Wow, how cute! So, sometimes people remember that stuff.

Oh and I meant to say before Butterfly - we're expecting 175 people. You don't need one straw per person, but I wanted 4 colors, so I went with 50 of each. You could get away with 100 probably. They are just for pictures, really, and maybe some people's first round of drinks.

  • Thanks for the tips, ladies!!

I decided that in the grand scheme of things, $50 or so on little details that I think are cute and will make for some cute pictures are worth it to me :) sure, napkins will end up in the trash, but I remember the cute napkins that a friend had at a wedding a few months ago.

Also, my parents did this (had embossed napkins at their wedding), and they kept a handful of them - one is STILL display in their home 35 years later, and another is in their scrapbook. I thought it would make for a cute frame-able item along with one of our invitations and one of our wedding programs.  Yes, I am a sap, but I love things like this :)
  • Oh - And I had personalized napkins at our Engagement Party and we kept them and they are in our Wedding Scrapbook already :) I will probably order some for our wedding, too - They were pretty cheap through The Knot but I am going to investigate to see if I can find cheaper.

I am a sucker for the little details too!!  we are doing that exact saying on the napkins we are doing hot pink beverage napkins that say eat, drink and be married"  $25 for 288 straws won't make or break our budget so we are going to do it :)  I might just skip the flag part of the straws that is very time consuming.

And I totally agree with you... $25 for 288 straws is totally worth it for the cute factor of them. I am torn between purple polta dots and purple stripes now.....

I agree. Detail oriented people will notice, and even if some people don't, YOU will still notice them and be happy you have them in YOUR pictures/scrapbook! $50 is worth it for me to have some cute extras, too.

LADY - I love that phrase! If my friend hadn't done it for her wedding, I would do it too. Not that I can't do it because she did . . . but I will probably just stick with "Bridetobe + Fiance, July 14, 2012" or something boring. I also considered putting an Ecclesiastes verse on them.

My FMIL is getting them for us she gets 50% off of this website called birchcraft so they are very cheap.

Check out oriental trading post I think they have them and they are always very cheap.  I got all of our candy buffet bags from there along with our OOT bags and crystals for our tables.

I made little drink flags and attached them to mine. We'll be displaying them in mason jars we've been collecting for the past few months.

Yeah, it probably took me about 90 mins to make 25. But my plan is to recruit some BMs to help me do the rest. I have the labels all printed, they just need to be cut and attached. I want to do 150 total, so should be about an hour between myself and BMs to get them done.

I just made my own template in PPT and messed with the sizing and such until it was right. I added clipart along one side and text on the other. Then I printed them on my color printer on lightweight card stock (just a bit heavier than regular printer paper). Then I cut them using a paper trimmer into strips, wrapped one around a straw, and used a glue stick to stick the two sides of the flag together. I let them dry for a few mins and then snipped out the little triangle shape on the ends.

  • No problem! I wanted ones that were sturdy so that people could use them (if they wanted) from drink to drink, rather than them getting squishy and falling apart. They also have coordinating flags, bags, favor stuff, ribbons, etc. :) Also, the woman is really responsive.

  • I've ordered cocktail napkins. I found them to be the cheapest on TK when they went on sale. Think I bought them at $16.99 per 100 which was the cheapest I found online. We ordered 300 for our 120 guests. They turned out so cute, green with white writing and we got 3 different images on each 100, starfish, palm trees and a shell.

Same here...plus my mom and wedding planner insisted I need paper napkins (even though we aren't technically doing a cocktail hour). We are having (hopefully no more than) 120 people, and I ordered 200...but that's because we're having a second reception and I'm hoping to have some left over. I think they are cute too, so I said fine lol

ETA: I got ours from efavormart.com. I haven't seen them yet since I had them delivered to Indiana, but my mom said they are cute. They were super cheap. I looked on TK but I didn't know if the pink they had was the right shade, so I kept looking and found them. Oriental Trading has them, but unless I missed something, they are NOT cheap there! (Which was surprising to me.)
