Speaking of Privacy. Google Image Search.

Did you know that you can save an image- and upload it to search for it's source?http://www.geek.com/articles/news/google-image-search-update-lets-you-upload-an-image-and-find-its-source-20110615/

So basically that means if you don't want to tell people exactly where you are getting married- but then you upload a picture of your venue on here from their website....I can save that image- throw it into google and figure out where you are getting married?

I'm not sure if it works with avatars (i.e. bringing people back to a facebook page, maybe?)

Just an FYI

Wow, that's crazy. I hadn't heard of this before. I actually just took my sig picture off and changed my avatar pic this morning in the hopes of having a bit more anonymity. The thread about the SN and what happened with Yaga has me a bit paranoid, I guess. I wish I could take down what city I live in.

Edit - I guess my avatar pic hasn't updated yet, but hopefully it will soon.

  • I've sometimes wanted to find the original source of an image for blogging or from pinterest or something, but I've never heard of this. Crazy.
  • Yep, I knew that.  I use that function all the time when posters on the attire board are all like "omg help me find this dressss".
  • I did know about that its awesome really but I never thought of someone being a creeper with it. I trust all of you ladies not to be creepy but you never know who is lurking. I bet you could use it with people's pictures.

    Haha...me too!

  • If you google any of our SN into google and look at images you can see things we've posted and inserted into thread on TK posts.

  • The internet freaks me out anymore. I've even considered changing my location to another city. I don't post anything that I wouldn't want someone else to see...anymore lol.

  • So I did it with one of my avatars...and it's such a trip...it could pinpoint my location!

And pulled pictures of people in the same exact spot. However...it didn't pull my FB page.

Umm holy shiit, I misread what you meant danser. I just google imaged myself and there are pictures of me in my dress! Eff this.

ETA: those pictures are deleted but they are forever searchable. It also brings up a bunch of stuff on you guys linked to my sn.

  • Jaycee, I just did the same thing & the picture of me in the dress I loved back in November came up.  I seriously hate the fucking internet right now.

  • I think I'm pretty lucky in this respect.  Yes, if you google my TK name, you get some of my TK stuff, my pinterest.  But you don't get my twitter, and you get a lot of other random stuff.

  • yea it's really creepy.

  • Pinterest brings up a lot of people by their screen names. And usually their real names and FB's are linked to pinterest. That kind of makes me sound like an internet sketch (I'm not. Swearsies) but a quick search brings up a few pinterests, and looking at the followers/followees I recognize a lot of people from here. By picture (people tend to use the same few pics over and over. Mostly because it's flattering, but it's also good for id'ing) or by first name. I'm not even sure you can hide your followers on pinterest.

I know people get all freaked out about this, but the vast majority of this isn't going to affect anyone negatively. Yes, a few people here and there from IRL might find you, but I don't think most of us have to worry about e-stalkers, or ID theft, or anything like that. I occasionally get curious about a poster, especially when I was new (or when I'm lurking on other boards), and would look up things online, or check out their blog. But it never really goes beyond that.

Yeah, I took my pinterest off of here for that reason. I mean, I don't have anything incriminating..but people can still be crazy.

And I feel you rdr. LAME!

Remember when someone managed to send Candi's wedding dress to her FI?
Well- I was new and didn't care to do it- nor would I ever...

But I wondered if I could figure it out. I found her on FB linked to someone else's FB- put her name into some wedding registries...her name came up with her FI's...Googled the FI- Work e-mail was there. Bam. Easy.

I don't mean to freak people out, but I suppose if people are worried about their safety and security...they should probably know this stuff, right?

Apparently I'm being ignored by people.  This makes me sad :(  I wanna know who hates me.

<div>Haha! That pic is hilarious. Totally can of worms b/c now I'm curious just how many people I can find! Totally not a great use of my afternoon. I need to go to the gym instead. And don't feel bad, Lunar for looking up Cate. I didn't do it either. I was new when that whole e-mail fiasco went down, but I totes found her through pinterest and found her FB as well. It's really not that hard, even if your privacy settings are all locked and tight, one of your friend's profiles might not be and it's easy peasy to at the very least get someone's first and last name. </div><div>
</div><div>That being said, again, I think it's just the age we live in. Even if someone quit the internet right this second, they'd have a virtual footprint. I'm of the mind that if you use common sense, you will be safe 99 times out of 100. Does that mean strangers might know your name? yes. But I'm not sure you can hide from that at this point. </div>

  • I've met a lot of my friends off the internet- and Andrew. I meet with stragers through meetup on a weekly basis.

I guess one of the reasons I'm not too worried about it is that I could just as easily meet a crazy person IRL....they could follow me home from the grocery store (which I have had happen...he grabbed my butt! And the police were so darn slow in that town- they let him get away).

I just don't want to live my life in constant worry. There are too many things to worry about.
