Woodlands in Long Island

My fiance and I have been looking for a venue for 8 months now and finally feel like we might actually settle down with one. We went to the Woodlands in Woodbury, Long Island today and really liked the old, rustic mansion feel to it.  We haven't been looking for anything fancy...and really wanted something with a little character and an intimate feel.

So...before we actually put a deposit down, we would love any feedback from anyone who has had a wedding there or been to a wedding there recently.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!

We are getting married there next August and really couldnt find too many reviews, I have been asking around and someone I worked with recently got married there and had nothing bad to say, he said the food was great as well as the staff. I have heard the same from a few others. They have been easy to work with so far and Margaret is really sweet.

Yes...Margaret is great.  We really love the place.  Its so different than most of the places we've seen.
My only concern is the size of the dance floor.  How many people are you having?
They say the capacity is 350, and we'll probably have about 225, but I still think thats pushing it with the size of the room.

I haven't been able to find many reviews either.

Let me know if you find anything out  We may book it next weekend if all goes well and I don't hear anything horrible.

We looked at a bunch of places too and really liked the Woodlands. We are have about 160 people I thought the dance floor was a good size, and if the weather is nice they open up the doors in the back which would make that part of the room seem even bigger. I think the size should be ok for the amount of people you are having. Do you know if you are going to have a band or a dj yet? A band set up would probably take some room away from the dance floor.
So far I have only heard good things, if you really like it you should have them reserve your date for you now, just incase. They will reserve it for free for up to a week I think.

We're having a band- and yes, I hope we both get nice weather because that makes the place look even better.  We reserved May of next year (we have engaged for a while).
Have you been to the restaurant there yet?  I think we're going out Sat night to check the food out.

Ohk thats good, No we havent been to the restaurant. I'm not sure how it would compare to the food they would serve at a wedding though, although I think it should be the same chefs. This is from the person I used to work with
"Yeah that place is great, food was excellent, staff is good. I have no complaints. The grounds are really nice there, they gave us a golf cart to drive around in it was funny."
He got married there this past August.
There is definately a lot of room for your guests to wander around also, not everyone will be on on the dance floor at once. I guess they recently re did it also because I saw some older posts on a site from 2005 or so where people were saying the dance floor was a little small.

I thought the Woodlands only did one wedding per day?

I didn't think they did more than one event at a time either.  I went to a showcase there years ago and thought it was lovely.  It's not your typical place and it definitely has a lot of character.  I'm having my reception at Brecknock Hall which is also an old mansion but out east on the North Fork.  Good luck and happy hunting!

You have nothing to worry about with Woodlands.  My sister got married there a few years ago and it was perfect!

Thanks!  Thats so good to hear.
Bridejune- how many people did your sister have?  Did the dance floor feel cramped to you?  It looks so small in person.
