I just had to get this out - as i'm getting ready for work right now i realized how angry i am about what a coworker said yesterday!! Just so you know, this coworker is kind of eccentric and a lot of people don't necessarily like her, but i've always been okay with her. So she comes up to me and asks me how the wedding planning is going. I give her my typical "it's going...." response and then she asks me if i would like to use any of her jewelry for my "something borrowed." I thank her but tell her i've got the jewelry covered. She then starts insisting that her jewelry is "just beautiful" and how the pearls would look great. I again tell her that i have jewelry already and that there's a Filipino superstition about wearing pearls on your wedding day. She then goes on to say "isn't there some superstition about wearing white on your wedding day? You do live with your boyfriend, right?" I just kind of blew it off yesterday but now am pissed. Am i crazy and being oversensitive? Or was that rude?
Re: Long - Work/Wedding drama rant!
Next time someone offers you something, I would recommend making an excuse for declining if they continue to insist like she did. In that instance, maybe instead of mentioning the Filipino supersitition, simply state you have jewelry that family is providing as your something borrowed. I'm guessing she likely isn't going to be invited to the wedding? If so, no need for her to know that you really are or aren't borrowing family jewelry - it just gets her off your back.

[QUOTE]I can see where you're coming from - it was rather rude for her to say that. However, trying to see it from her perspective, I can see how what you said about wearing pearls might have been taken as offensive by her. Not that you intentionally were trying to offend, but I'm not sure if adding in the part about the Filipino supersitition was necessary? For all you know, she wore those pearls on her wedding day or maybe her mother did.

This girl seems a little crazy if you ask me...like really who cares what jewelry you wear! Have fun with that one!
Your coworker was extremely rude, but since she seems "off" I would just try to forget it.

Okay, i feel better about the whole situation. i talked to another co-worker about it and came to the conclusion that she wasn't trying to be offensive, and perhaps she was offended by me telling her that some Filipinos believed it was bad luck to wear pearls on their wedding day.....but needless to say, even before this incident, she is definitley not on the guest list!
