Invite Pricing

Hi Ladies,

Looking for some invite recommendations and pricing. Not looking to spend a lot at all, but also don't want the invites to look cheap if we spend cheaply on them! Is that possible? I really have no clue on what is a good price to spend on invites. To me $300 is a lot, but from what my friends tell me that is super low! Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

First things first -- how many do you need?  $300 for 75 invitations is different than $300 for 300 invitations...

And do you have any preferences about what style of invitations you want, type of printing, and how many pieces each invitation will be (possible pieces include things like the invitation itself, reception card, RSVP (card with envelope or postcard), accommodations card, directions card... but it could go on from there).

$300 is low in my opinion... but it also depends on how many people you plan on inviting. I got 100 invitations, response sets and reception cards w/ double envelopes and return address printed on the envelope. Invites were also thermography which is more expensive than flat printing, and this all came to about $370 (with shipping and proof costs included). I really feel like I got an awesome deal on my invites but I did a LOT of shopping around. A friend of mine spent around $2k on her invitations and when I showed her mine, she thought I spent $1200 on them! She seemingly had an endless budget for her wedding though, which I certainly don't...

Like what everyone said, it depends on how many you need and how many pieces need to be included.. For about 75 invitations i spent under $300, however i only ordered the invitation (envelopes included), and the rsvp cards, with the addresses printed on the return envelopes. i got my invitations from weddingpaperdivas.com

DItto Uppereast - it really depends on your preferences.

WoW! I'm going to need about 100 invites as well.  RLB81 can you send me your contact that you used? I guess I need to get out there and see what places have first to see what I like. Also, what do you think about ordering online? I'm not sure how I feel about it, I've heard some say not to do it because it's best to be able to feel the cards and see it first hand, but I also heard you get better deals online.

I got my invites from the Golden Quill in Chester- contact was Kristen Doyle (the owner). I saw her at a bridal show at my reception venue and she was giving out 20% coupons but when I met w/ her she didn't ask for the coupon and it doesn't expire until June 30th I believe, so I think she'll honor this for anyone ordering wedding invitations http://www.thegoldenquill.com/

I met w/ her in her "home studio" in Flemington, and beforehand told her how many invites I'd need and didn't want to spend more than $400 TOTAL. She brought tons of books for me to look at and we decided on Paper Duvet

We got our STDs from weddingpaperdivas and they were great to work with- but for the invites I wanted to actually meet w/ someone in person as opposed to ordering them online. But I do recommend them as well.

FI and I customized everything ourselves from the colors of everything to the font etc.

I fell in love with a set of invitations that when I priced them out they would have cost nearly $1,000. I found a DIY kit at Michael's with a similar look (minus thermography) and for 120 invites, RSVP cards (w/envelopes) and envelopes I spent $60 (thank you 50% coupons). I used heavy resume paper to print my direction and accommodation cards- printed at work for free. I just brought them to get weighed at the post office and they only require a regular stamp- score! Total my invites are costing less than $150 and everyone seems to love them. I didn't get my thermography- but I'd rather spend the money elsewhere or not spend it at all.

I bought ours from weddingpaperdivas.com. I thought they had a pretty good selection and decent prices. I ordered two samples for $1 each and free shipping (FREESHIP coupon code) and we really liked one (the other felt flimsy), so I waited for one of their sales (sign up for their e-mails) and bought them about six months away from the wedding. I spent $285 and got 125 invites, RSVP cards, and envelopes for each.

I just used the paper slips that the hotel and reception hall gave me, rather than order separate insert cards for those. I spent $22 on church direction cards from Vistaprint.com. Everything was lightweight enough that I only had to buy a 44-cent stamp for the entire invite, and another 44-cent stamp for each reply card.

So with all that totaled together, I wound up spending about $3.33 per invite. We picked this suite, in olive green: http://tinyurl.com/yjd69hz

I am also doing the DIY kits from Michaels.  I don't really have a budget that I have to stick to, but I just couldn't see spending 2k on invites.  Plus I like DIY projects and so does my FSIL so it gives us stuff to do together.  Also used 50% off coupons and I think I ended up paying like $180 dollars for 270 invites, that is without postage.  The Kit I got has everything but one direction card which I am going to use Card stock. IF you are into DIY projects then that is the cheapest way to go.

I got mine done professionally- they are Birchcraft- from www.birchcraftinvitations.com They were only $220 for everything, all inserts, gummed and lined envelopes with return addresses... Very classic things- go under "Budget Friendly" on it.

I ordered 125 invites with response cards/printed envelopes, inner envelope, outer envelope with return address printed on the back, and the invites have a pretty ribbon, after applying promotions and discounts we got them for $325. We ordered from http://www.rexcraft.com. Other sites to check are:

    http://www.weddingpaperdivas.com
    http://www.theamericanwedding.com

I think online is definitely the way to go. We ordered free samples for all of the styles we were interested in (although I think Divas charges $1 per sample), so we got to see them and hold them prior to ordering. I also found customer service at Rexcraft to be quite helpful. I was able to customize the entire invite to my preferences and when there was a screw-up on the response cards they fixed it for free and quite promptly. If you're looking to do invites on the cheap (and let's face it, it's a good place to save since they'll end up in the trash), online is the way to go because there's less overhead, so they can keep the costs low. I know a lot of people DIY this to save money, but in the end I don't feel like you end up saving THAT much money and to me it's worth a little extra cash to have professionals do it so that I don't have to fight with my computer and my printer to get them right.

Oh, that's the other thing, for nearly all the online sites you can get promotion codes for discounts and free shipping. Just google Rexcraft (or whatever company you use) promotion codes and you'll find a bunch.

We DIYed. I think it worked out to around $1 per invite.
