Caribbean Island - June Honeymoon - HELP!?

My fiancé and I are looking to book our honeymoon for the end of June (2013). We are looking to the Caribbean but I’m a bit overwhelmed with the choices for both islands and resorts. We have been to Jamaica before and I loved it. Stayed at an AI (Secrets Wild Orchid). Loved everything about Jamaica but obviously looking to go somewhere new. Would like to stay away from Mexico and Dominican. Open to both all inclusive options and not AI.

We are beach people. While it is our honeymoon, we’d like a nice mix of relaxing on the beach, doing a few day trips….maybe charter a boat for the day, explore the island. A decent nightlife would be a plus but not a necessity. (Similar to Jamaica)

Any suggestions you can provide would be good. In terms of our budget...we are willing to spend a little more than a normal vacation considering its our honeymoon - maybe betwen $6k-$7k..

Costa Rica? It seems like it would be in your budget and has a mix of adventure and relaxation.

Just curious, why do you want to stay away from Mexico or Dominican Republic?

We have been to Mexico before and I wasn't a big fan. I would like to visit Dominican but not for my honeymoon...I feel like you can get great deals and its somewhere I would totally go down the road....I want to go somewhere that a little more exotic and different.

That looks great. I booked my European honeymoon with that companys sister website. They are reputable and very affordable.

Also I saw you had a posting back in July with some advice. Did you check out some of those suggestions? I know you said you had been to Mexico and didn't think it was safe but there were other suggestions on there besides Mexico. (Although from experience I can assure you it is perfectly safe!)

We went to Antigua at the end of June for our honeymoon. Antigua has 365 fantastic beaches so if you are a beach person you'll love it. We stayed at Cocos Hotel which is an all-inclusive (FANTASTIC food). You get your own cabin with an amazing view. We did a circum-nav tour on a speed boat (with snorkeling and a visit to Stingray City) as well as a day trip out to Barbuda which was very cool, and some exploring on our own. There isn't a ton of nightlife in June since it's the offseason but Jolly Harbor and St. Johns does have some stuff going on. Our hotel also had some night beach parties which were a good time.

We booked through luxurylink.com and got a really good deal..like 7 nights for around $2800 if I remember correctly.

We just booked our honeymoon in the Dominican Republic (7 days at the Excellence). I know you said you are trying to stay away from there, so I won't elaborate on location. But...

I REALLY recommend using a travel agent. Many don't charge a dime to you (unless you book and then cancel) and they will get a good deal typically. I booked through a travel agent in Texas (I live in Michigan) that a friend recommended and she got us everything we wanted and more for under budget and made planning MUCH less stressful. We just told her what we wanted, she gave us suggestions, and she did all of the work that I otherwise would've spent hours doing.

I'd recommend Puerto Rico. Lots of places to see, you can rent a car and drive all over the island, San Juan has a great night life, and there are plenty of boats to be seen all over. A trip over to Vieques would also be awesome with a dip in the bioluminescent bays! We also hiked in the rain forest (El Yunque).

EDIT: We went to Puerto Rico at the end of June this year. Weather was much like Philadelphia - hot and humid. The rainforest, however, is a breezy 75 year round!

I loved the Bahamas when I was there. And there are a lots of options there in terms of places to stay and things to do. Before we booked our honeymoon in Hawaii, our runner up was Antigua. I've never been, but have heard amazing things. The resort we were considering was Cocobay resort, it's an AI and i think it was around 5Kish before airfare.

I'm just gonna throw it out there, even though you said you didn't really want Mexico. We went to Isla Mujeres, an very small Mexican island, and it was absolutely amazing.

st kitts and nevis come to mind-there's a nice mariott on st kitts and the 4 seasons on nevis. easy to island hop.

curacao also comes to mind. kura hulanda lodge or hotel. tons to do.

st john and the other USVI.BVI also-the westin on st john is nice and easy to get to a ton of other islands.

H and I just returned from Roatan on Saturday and it was amazing. Not an AI, but the beach was gorgeous, the snorkeling/diving is some of the best in the world, and there were some great activities available (we LOVED the dolphin excursion we did there).

The 4 seasons in Nevis should be in that price range. I don't know about the nightlife, but I had friends that went there and stayed at the Marriot and loved it!

There will be excursions in most places.

St. Lucia is interesting. The beaches are smaller, but the views are better than most beacuse of the mountains. There are some really nice places there and some unqiue excursions, like the cocoa plantations and volcanoes.
