Feeling scared and worried just need to vent ><

I've had medical issues dealing with my female hormones and cycle for years , so much so that I have had to miss work because of the amount of blood loss , nauseau , dehydration , vomiting that ensues. The last few weeks I have been making myself go to work even when it has meant I have had to run to the bathroom 3 to 5 times an hour to deal with my bleeding or dizzyness/vomiting on some occasions. I just got done working a 7 day in a row work week and an 8 day in a row work week due to being scheduled over 2 weeks because corporate was coming in and everyone had to work extra hard. Things have caught up with me and today I woke up early in the am and vomited a bit , and since 8am was having a fever , dizzyness , hard time keeping water down and just feeling sick. So I call into work and when I am honest about what is going on they call me out saying its unacceptable.

And the thing is yes , I do understand..but do you think I like feeling this way ? That I am so sick that I cant control some issues and I have no insurance until after I am married and the ER won't do anything for me either. Do you think I bust my ass at work for nothing ? I have borderline depression , serious anxiety , am put into positions where I have no training or experience but I make it work because I know I have to. And I cry when I am sick because I feel so depressed over failing at life. I just wish employers would understand that not everyone that calls in is just feeling under the weather , that some of us due to no fault of our own do have issues that due to financial reasons cannot even be seen for and we are trying to do everything just to keep afloat as is. I feel so alone right now.

Tafft I'm so sorry you're not feeling well!  I totally understand how you feel about work - I get guilt tripped if I call in sick.  It's not like we WANT to be sick...but it happens.  Try not to focus on that and think about getting better.  Lots of fluids, lots of rest and lots of hugs and kisses from FI when he gets home.

    You're not alone, love.

Aww, Tafft, I'm sorry those people are unsympathetic morons. I would think no sane employer wants anyone to come in with a fever (my last company was explicit--if you have a fever, don't be here).

I bet if you threw up on your boss, he/she'd send you home. Wink

I hope you feel better. Saltines and Pepto Bismol are your friends.

Oh Tafft I'm so sorry you aren't feeling well

    *HUGS*

And I'm sorry your boss is being a jerk - people get sick sometimes and it always seems like they just assume you don't want to work. I get guilt-tripped when I have to call in too. Get lots of rest and fluids today *hugs again*

I'm sorry you're sick!  Some employers are just serious assholes.  I will never understand why some bosses can't appreciate that their employees are human and deserve consideration and respect.

Don't feel bad about not going into work when you're vomiting and have a fever.  They can shove it.  Your health comes first--and don't you forget it!

*Hug*  Feel better.  Drink lots of water.

It's retail and their rule is no more than 3 absences in 12 months , and now am being threatened with corrective action. I understand she is doing her job , I really do. I just wish I had the opportunity to bring in a doctors note to say - here - its not in my head. Because its always " we dont have anyone else to cover" - but you just hired 3 new people..sigh. I have yet to be ever officially written up yet so i'm not yet on "strike one" but I wouldn't be surprised to be written up when I get back tomorrow. It is what it is..

Edit to add : I do appreciate all the kind words and support , and Ive had a shaky job history because of said medical issues/ medical and deaths in families I have had to take care of and I have never been treated for said issues because of no insurance..it sucks.

how awful, I hope you are feeling better soon! Sounds like an incredibly frustrating situation you're dealing with- sometimes all employers/companies focus on is how well the company is doing and how much money they are making, with little or no regard for their employees and their health, stress levels, family situations, etc. Best of luck to you, just try to keep yourself as comfortable as you can.

So sorry that you feel so unwell, and on top of it, have to deal with that kind of flack from work. Even if your boss is just going according to the letter and not necessarily being malicious, it's still a huge pain when people can't understand the human element of situations. Thankfully, a change in your insurance situation is on the horizon. Keep looking up and forward, hon.

Taft, I am so sorry that you aren't feeling well. Please take care of yourself, employers can be real jerks about these things.

Tafft, I'm so sorry. I know retail is incredibly frustrating, and sometimes it seems like it's the freaking twilight zone or something. You're a human being, not a robot!

All I can say is, as soon as you're on your FI's insuance, go to the doctor. Get diagnosed properly, and then give your employer all the doctor's notes in the freaking world.

I hope you feel better soon. Keep trying to drink fluids. Maybe try something like ginger ale, with a little bubble to it. That can be soothing (and ginger is naturally soothing to your stomach and alleviates nausea). When you can eat, try to get some things that are high in iron, like fortified cereals, or spinach with a glass of orange juice (the vitamin C aids the iron absorption).

Please take care of yourself! <3

I'm sorry you're going through this!! I agree with the PPs on how it sucks that your employer is acting like this.  It's not your fault.  Focus on getting yourself better and pop in a fun movie while you're out sick.

    *hugs*

I can totally sympathize with the no insurance thing.  I passed out at work in January (when I still had a job) - I'm borderline hypoglycemic and have been since I was a kid (they ran all kinds of tests when I was younger and everything came back this way, I had eaten less than 2 hours before it happened, but guess it isn't enough sometimes).  Since it happened at work, even with the prior medical history, my boss and the paramedics were certain it would be worker's comp and I really wasn't in any condition to argue with anyone at that point, so they sent me via ambulance to the ER.  Well, worker's comp denied the claim and of course it was a job with no insurance, so I'm now stuck paying over $4000 in medical bills.  They're all letting me make payments, but it's still a lot of money (and I don't qualify for Medicaid or any other financial assistance, even though I'm now unemployed - long story).

I hope you'll feel better soon - a warm bath (if it's not too hot where you are) or a heating pad might make you feel better, too.  And pop in a good movie, that always does the trick for me.

I'm so sorry you're feeling sick and that your bosses are a bunch of douchenozzles. Want me to punch them in the face for you? I hope you feel better soon and please let us know if you need to talk!

Get a courier service to deliver a bag of your vomit to them as "proof"

I had the same problem as you did for several years.  I almost failed my first semester of college because of it, and dealt with a horrible employer that threatened to "write me up" because he thought i was just trying to get out of working or making excuses to go home early on certain unbareable days.

Do you have an HR rep in your office you could talk to?  Maybe you can discuss the situation with them so they can put a note in your file and stop your bosses from making inappropriate assumptions about your health.

Are you on any sort of birth control?  I know you said you don't have insurance, but there are many health clinics that will help you with birthcontrol for a lower cost.  It took several tries and 4 or 5 different options, but my doctor and i finally found a pill that works for me, and now i only have my period once every 3 months, and it isn't nearly as awful anymore.

I stopped taking it because the side effects were worse , and we tried about 6 different types. Considering I already have hormonal issues , I made the choice to stop until I can get a full workup of bloodwork and find out what really is wrong , if anything , or whatever is going on instead of tossing out theory after theory about what might work. Also knowing how long my body takes to adjust or get back to normal..it just isn't worth it for now. The days it affects me are much fewer and far between but a few months ago my cat was sick and had to take time off for that , before that I had to go to the ER for a rash/issue - i did provide a doctor statement and they basiclaly told me it didnt matter so..wtf. Then my FI had appendicitis a few motnhs before that and I took time off and they basiclaly reprimanded me for that too. So yeah..it's just another stress I dont need. sigh.

I know you all are trying to help and its appreciated..I just feel so much anxiety I want to run away..

Tafft, I hope you feel better.  I would never go into work with a fever or if I was vomitting.  The sad thing is that so many people (not you) take advantage of calling out, that bosses have become so ridiculous about it.  One of my coworkers said she had the flu, meanwhile she took a trip to the Caribbean.

You know we're here for you if you need to vent anymore.
