To our East Coast friends........

Just wanted you to know you are all in my thoughts & prayers. Here in Michigan we are not escaping Sandy's wrath......waves on the Great Lakes are at 20-35 foot heights now, or soon will be. There are a lot of homes within a 100 feet of the lakes, some on shores, some with concrete break-waters.

I've heard from some family & friends. My son in DC is getting hellacious rain, but nothing else so far.

Stay safe, keep in touch.

Re: To our East Coast friends........

  • Thanks for the good wishes.  The winds are picking up here, howling, in fact.  The Federal government has announced closing tomorrow.  Our office follows the Feds, but I need to get in to retrieve my laptop.  I think I'm going to get that taken care of right away.  I really need to hunker down (stay in) until this all blows over.
  • We're not in bad shape here, other than the fact that I can't get my workouts in because the weather is too bad for bicycling and the Y is closed.  But so far, we haven't even lost power.  I've been curled up under the covers with a warm dog and a good book, which is not so bad.
  • My dad is one of those fools that decided to stay at his house and ignore evacuation orders. I grew up, and my family still lives, on the barrier island just north of Atlantic City, NJ. So, I'm a bit heartbroken seeing pictures of the devastation, but thankful my family made it through safely. My dad's home is on one of the highest points on the island at a whole 5 ft above sea level, so the interior of the house was saved. There may be extensive damage underneath the crawl space. He will be stuck on the island for days and my family who did leave won't be able to return for days. Sending out good wishes and thoughts to everyone on here who was affected and beyond.

  • I hope those that have been in Sandy's path and still feeling the wrath are keeping safe and sound.... You are all in my thoughts.

(((HUGS))) So sorry to hear about your dad's home.  I hope he is safe.
  • Thanks Lisa! I finally got some pictures from him and his garage was just filled with water. It looks like most things in there are a complete loss. He hasn't said much about the interior of the home, but based on the height of the water, I don't see how he couldn't have damage. My grandmother lives right across the street from him and he sent me a picture that shows a boat in her front yard. The house is 2 blocks from the bay. Scary stuff! I imagine his cars that he didn't move were a loss as the water was almost to the top of the tires of his company's Ford Explorer. People were finally allowed back on the island as of last night, so I'm awaiting further word. They still do not have electricity, though. Continued best wishes to everyone affected.
