Ask to see pictures of the rain plan (Seems pretty obvious after the fact!)

This never occurred to me when I was planning, but I'd recommend that those of you who are using outdoor venues ask for pictures from rained-out weddings of what the venue's rain plan actually looks like.

Re: Ask to see pictures of the rain plan (Seems pretty obvious after the fact!)

  • I'm surprised this didn't occur to you sooner!  Anyone who has an outdoor wedding needs to have a rain plan.

We married on a deck over the ocean.  I basically refused to acknowledge any idea other than "We're marrying outside," but I needed to know that a rain plan existed to ease my concerns. I asked if the hotel had a rain plain, which they said yes and described it briefly to me.  They then asked if I wanted to see it and I declined.  Luckily, I got away with my head being in the sand - the weather was beautiful.  But, I would've been mega-uncomfortable without knowing what the back up plan was!
  • I actually went to visit my venue when it was downpouring.  So we got to see first hand just how good their rain plan was.

  • Our venue was an old mansion. We planned the reception for outside and like Joy, I was of the mentality that there was no other option. Obviously, we would have just moved inside had that been the case, but I definitely knew what it looked like.
  • Oh, I always knew what the venue's rain plan was, I just never asked to see rainy-wedding photos! Seems like a pretty simple thing I could have asked to see.
  • Thats the reason we chose our venue.  We are getting married in October and all the other venues we loved but we would have had to get married in the reception room.  Gross.  This one rain or shine it is happening outside.  I just hope it's not a hurricane!
