Distributing OOT Guest Bags

For those doing OOT guest bags, how are you distributing them to your guests?

Will your hotel have them at the check-in desk or deliver them to the guest rooms? Do they charge for this service? Or are you going to have someone you know distribute them rather than going through the hotel?

I have heard that it can be a nightmare to have the hotel deliver them to the guestrooms, b/c your guests may ask for a different type of room at check-in and then not get there bag, but I'm not really sure how it would work out doing it at the check-in, either.

Re: Distributing OOT Guest Bags

  • Pretty sure our hotel keeps them behind the desk and hands them out when our guests check in (if they've booked in our room block, their names are flagged).  I believe the bags have to have our names on them so they know what bags to give which guests, and we'll be dropping them off the day prior.

I'll be confirming stuff with the hotel later this month so I'm not 100% sure yet.

  • Our hotel front desk will distribute them at check-in for no charge, they're pretty small so I don't think it will be an issue for people to carry them to their rooms. I'm hoping it'll work out, but with everything else there is to stress about, I'm honestly not going to cry if someone doesn't get a bag.

  • Just a word of advice,  you should wait until the last possible minute to give the OOT bags to the hotel staff because when I worked at the front desk of the hotel, some of the people I worked with would go through them and take out the good stuff like candy, gum, aspirin.  I know it sounds awful but it happened a lot.

One way to prevent this is to use a ribbon or pretty tape to tie them closed. Secure them in a way so that it would be easy to tell if someone has tampered with them.

  • OMG thanks for the heads-up, Penny. Ugh.

At most hotels I spoke with, they charge a fee to deliver bags to rooms, so we will have ours handed out at the front desk instead. They usually don't charge for this, but we had it put explicitly in our room block contract that they won't charge us just to make sure.

  • I know Meagan!  It was really disappointing when I found out about this because these were people that I trusted and genuinely liked but they had no qualms about stealing! I brought it up a few times but no one seemed to think that they were doing anything wrong.  So happy to be out of that job.

Bells, that ticker mocks me everytime I look at it, lol.  So much to still do!
  • Ahh penny that is so totally lame but a good tip to keep in mind. With the amount of business our wedding is bringing these hotels, they better not steal some freaking advil from my guests!

  • ummmmmmmmm 1. why do people suck so bad?!?!? seriously, stealing out of gift bags for guests?? I think we are doing gable boxes (I need to order them ASAP) and sealing them with a cute ribbon so hopefully no one will be able to steal from them...

    2. I am also in shock that Penny's ticker says 2 weeks!!!!!!! My 48 days still seems like an eternity to me!

oh, and my hotels all charge a $2/bag fee or something ridiculous like that to place the bags in people's rooms, so we are just having the front desk staff hand them out. I am just planning on providing the exact amount of rooms that have been reserved.
  • We are going to have the bags at the front desk for when people check in.

  • We're not doing one, but we went to Mexico for a wedding last year and the bags were already in our rooms when we checked in.

  • We are doing OOT bags and think our hotel charges something like $4 a bag, even if they are handed out by the front desk staff, so ridiculous. I need to talk to our coordinator there to see if we can get around this!
