*GretchenLaRoux*

The smoke house with the wires is nothing to fear, promise.  I didn't even touch a wire, they were spaced far enough apart.  And it was more steam than smoke.

However, if there is a giant water slide into a mudpit?  I highly recommend skipping it.  I hit the water at the bottom hard enough that it knocked the wind out of me and I saw stars.  The rest was fun though!

Also?  I was really out of shape, and I made it to mile 2.5 before I lost my last flag.  Walk a lot.  Save the energy for sprinting past the zombie bottlenecks.

  • Oh, thank you! I keep meaning to work harder on running (I get winded *very* easily, even after 8 months of quitting smoking), I just have been slacking lately. I still have a few months, anyway!

From what BF and I have assumed, there will be stadium-type seating every so often for spectators, yeah? And, if so, is that where the attacks tend to happen most? Or is it just kinda random? How many flags do you get? I thought it was 5, but BF said it was 2, which seems like almost nothing!

  • Yeah, there are stands where it was convenient.  Ours was at a motocross course, so there was really only spectator seating at the beginning and the end.  You can tell where there will be zombies, mostly, anyway.  A few surprised us, coming up out of the woods or something.  Mostly, they group zombies in wider, more open areas, or places where it's hard to avoid them (like at a fork in the path).

    There were 3 flags.

I would recommend running some hills.  Maybe it was just because ours was on a motocross course, but holy hills.  My hip flexors KILL.  We walked probably 75% of it, and just sprinted past the zombies.

Bring a backpack, and check it at the gear check.  You''ll want it right away.  Put your change of clothes in it (bring old clothes to change into, they won't stay clean), flip flops, towel, and garbage bags.

  • Oh, awesome. You're a life saver. I don't know anyone who has done this one to be able to ask them! Everyone I know is doing Warrior Dash instead.

Have you ever done Yoga poses for your hip flexors? I always do Pigeon after working out, and it stretches them like none other. Feels soooo good.

  • Glad you had fun J&K :)
  • Yeah, I've got some decent hip flexor stretches.  They just got really stiff and tight after the 40 minute car ride home!

  • Oh, also?  Wear tech material clothing and socks.  I had a cotton shirt on and was sorry.  My capris dried fast.  My shirt was wet the whole time.  Cotton socks would have been hellish.

  • I was going to get in as a make up artist for the Boston one, but ended up with a schedule conflict. It seemed pretty awesome though. I havent seen any pictures from when my friends did it, though. Glad you had fun JK, and good luck Gretchen!

Good, good. I was planning on wearing really tight clothes so they don't get too heavy when wet.

I'm way more excited than nervous now. :D
