Changing venues at the last moment?

I don't know where to start at, so I guess I will just start here:
Back in January, we booked our venue and started our planning process. A couple of times after that we thought it would be post poned, but we fount ways to keep it a way from that. I can't blame my MIL, because I should be able to say NO, when she keeps adding to our list. Anyway, here recently it seems we are dwelling down the path AGAIN.

Over the weekend I was at my sisters house, trying to figure out where we could cut something out, which we did, but it just wasn't enough! My sister suggested a place that is very nice, and a lot of things I am having to rent, would be cut down because It already  includes it. Plus it cuts our budget in half by 75%! We went and looked at the place and I fail in love with it, now I want to change venues. . .

Is this stupid or a smart thing to do? I've called the venue to see what the cancellation policy is... I can receive everything I paid in, but the $500 deposit . The othe place I don't even have to put one down, no clean up fee and no limited hours to have it. The other place I have to do just that. Any advice or suggestion? PLEASE HELP ME!?

  • You have to do what makes you happy as well as what fits your budget! I've changed my mind 3 times and settled on making the 3rd choice my final choice. It was very budget smart for me.

  • I haven't had a lot of money to work with on mine. I started out wanting to have it at the beach, but due to family not being able to come I changed my mind. Then it went to I was going to have an outside river sunset wedding but they wanted to charge more than I wanted to spend. I finally decided to have it at my home church. It was free to use good for me! And I didn't have to worry about moving from ceremony to reception since it is all together at the church. I am trying to have my wedding under 1000. So I'm looking for ever little discount I can get. What I'm trying to say is do what is the best for you. In the end it is 1 day and all the little things you won't remember.

It;s a hard decision to chose from. . . The place you love that has EVERYTHING and cost a leg, arm a few toes OR the place you love that has little and can fit your budget. :(

  • What would make you happier? I personally am on a tight budget I guess that is why it is easier for me to go for the cheaper one. I look at it this way. When I decide to renew my vows I will do the beach wedding when I have more money. If you have the money to spend then go for it! If you don't then do the budget friendly one!

I am sooo planning on that too!!

I agree with PP, if you have the option to change and you love the other place, that $500 that you lose to your first venue is much less than what you'd be paying out if you stuck with that first place and if all that money is stressing you out then maybe the 2nd place will help you relax and enjoy the process more?
