Reception venue ideas...

We are looking to get married in January and I am trying to get a list of places together.

Any thoughts on good reception venues for a winter wedding?

thanks in advance!

I'm also getting married in January, and we're having our reception at the Ramada Plaza in Minneapolis. Maybe it would help if you gave more details (cities you're close to, personal style, number of guests, etc.) Technically, any hall that has heat and isn't outdoors is good for a winter wedding, so I'd be able to give more suggestions if I had more to go on.

I suppose that would be helpful huh. :)

In the cities or close if possible.
I would like to stay under 200 guests.
Thinking a little on the vintage side.
Ideally we are thinking heavy hors d'oeuvres as opposed to a sit down dinner.

Is that a little better?  haha

I'm getting married this January. We are doing a heavy hors d'oeuvres food reception as well, instead of a sit down dinner. We are getting married and having the reception at the Landmark Center in downtown St Paul. Gorgeous old architecture, and close to a lot of hotels right around Rice Park. Perfect for pictures with Christmas lights still up on the trees, :)

Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids is newly renovated and it absolutely gorgeous! And I am holding my reception at Courtyards of Andover in Andover. lol

The new venue at Bunker HIlls though is absolutely amazing, it was just a little out of my budget range.

Profile Event Center! It's much cheaper in Jan and it would definitely fit all of the things on the list except being somewhat vintage. This is where I really want to have my reception. I recommend checking it out!

I think the Historic Courthouse in Stillwater could make a GORGEOUS winter venue.

The only sticking point might be that (if you're doing both the ceremony and reception there) you'd only have one space for both. In the warmer months, ceremonies are done on the front steps... so that probably wouldn't be a valid option. The venue would totally work with you on how you wanted the seating options to work, though.

In my opinion, if someone's looking for a 'vintage' venue, there's nothing better for the value than the Historic Courthouse.

They're not as unique as some that PPs have mentioned, but have you considered doing everything at a hotel? It can be nice for people to not have to travel, especially if a bunch of your guests will be coming in from out of town --  that way, they can just show up, check into the hotel, and they're good. I got married last November at the DoubleTree Park Place in St. Louis Park. The weather was still nice, but we had lots of guests thank us for not making them run all over the city.

    Just a thought...

We loved the Profile event center, have you also checked out Como? They have some really cool spaces.

I think Landmark Center would be a gorgeous setting for a winter wedding!  Semple Mansion is beautiful as well, and has a lot of character that might go with your theme! Good luck :)

What about the James J Hill library? It is historical and stately, but is definitely a little quirky and more unique than a hotel. There are some pictures and reviews if you google it!

We just got married at the Profile Event Center this past Friday and LOVED it!  Everything was fantastic.  I couldn't recommend it more.

I also really like the Historic Courthouse and Landmark Center. Both are very vintage, have stunning architecture, and would fit your number of guests. I used to work at the Landmark Center and can attest to the gorgeous winter weddings I saw being set up there.

Can I just say that I love you all already? :)

The Landmark has been at the top of my list, but am excited to check out some of these other options as well. I am sure I will be back with more questions! haha...

My adorable fiance just text messaged me that he is at home making a spreadsheet for us to input reception venues. So sweet.

We're having our reception at Christos at Union Depot Place in downtown St. Paul this coming February and I think it could work well for your winter wedding, too. The pricing is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper in the off-season and it's definitely got a gorgeous historical vibe - art deco and all that jazz. Talk to Georgia - she's fantastic!

I know that this is not a vintage feel and is more modern, but they have excellent pricing in Jan. and I've seen some awesome ceremonies done here as well.

    Good Luck!

You should definitely look out for my pictures post-wedding then, since you will see pretty much what your wedding could look like at the Landmark, in January. ;)
