NWR: movers?

H and I are planning our next big adventure, a big out-of-state move.  Have any of you ladies moved with a company that you would recommend?  I'm open to pod-type systems that we would pack ourselves or more full-service movers (trying to convince H that we don't want to be driving a U-Haul for 13 hours).  TIA.

Where are you off to? That's exciting to be moving.

I've never done the pod-moving first hand, but I've heard that unless you place the pod on pavement, it can leave some damage to the ground. Other than that complaint, I've heard decent reviews from people I know who've used them. I'm actually looking into it myself.

We are moving down to DC.  Not looking forward to leaving Maine, but I'm also kind of ready to move on, because I know the situation we're in now is not permanent.

Jessie, I used FlatRate for my last move (from Manhattan to Maine), and they were fine, but not cheap, and the quote they gave me for this move was crazy, they said because they don't have an office in Maine.  I don't know if you want to look into them from Boston.

We have a reservation with U-Pack, which is a thing where they drop off a trailer and you load it, then they ship it.  I don't know if our driveway is long enough for it, especially since there is a ramp since the trailer is kind of high up to load stuff.  I think I would be too nervous to have it out on the street for a couple of days, and that would also mean a longer distance to carry stuff out to it.

I'm familiar with Knowlton Moving in the Rockland area.  A very nice couple have owned it for years and are easy to work with and trustworthy. Good luck!

in the Portland area I would recommend Price Moving. He doesn't have a website, I was referred to him by a local friend. He was really nice and did a great job! He's full service. He drives the truck. PM me if you're interested in getting his number. He moved my aunt from Maine to Florida so I'm certain he'll move you to DC

    HE&ME--thanks a lot, I emailed them for a quote.

Jelenybeany--YGPM (or 2...sorry, my computer was being super slow and I didn't think the first one sent)!
