Wedding dress worries. PIP

I bought my dress a few months ago under non-ideal circumstances. Long story short, it was me, my mom, and my step-grandma who I'm not close to. She ended up coming along because she was in town and strong armed me into buying the dress the same day I first tried it on. It was pretty stressful for me and I'm trying not to hold a grudge or anything (apparently her medication have been making her really grumpy), but I still wish t could have happened differently.

Anyway, the dress is lovely, but not what I really had in mind. We're having a simple outdoor wedding with lots of friends and family.I was originally going to get a tea-length dress with just a little bit of poof in it. This dress is floor length and closer to a ball gown. I'm thinking about having it hemmed to right above the ground to make sure I don't accidentally drag it through mud or something. I'm a little worried that it will look weird shorter though. Also around my hips (where the poof starts) has a weird line, maybe from where all the fabric is attached? The dress hasn't been hemmed or altered in any way yet, so maybe when I get altered it will go away some.

Am I being overly critical? Help/reassure me?

I am thinking this is a picture of you, and not a model, right? If so, you are nice and slim so any poof should be flattering and not fattening. Hold off on the shortening decision until you get your dress, as it is hard to make final decisions from poorly fitting used samples. Although you felt pressured, it is an absolutely gorgeous dress. Everyone has second thoughts, so just try to wait.

This is my actual dress, it just came in the mail a few weeks ago. I'm wearing a slip with it (which I'm debating if I should use or not) and heels. I'm just really short and the dress will definatly need to be hemmed in some way.

Perhaps if you had some of the crinoline removed, you'd have a smoother line around the hips and the dress would be less poufy and better for your outdoor wedding. I would get the line fixed first before shortening it. It's a very pretty dress.

Unfortunately the line is there with or without the crinoline. Next time I'm home (dress is at my moms house) I think I might stand on a box or something and see if it's just the fabric pushing up on the dress (there is some very stiff fabric in there). If this is not the problem do you think it's something a tailor might be able to fix? I've not met with one yet.

Yes. Take it to a professional. If it just came in the mail, it needs to be fitted to your body. That poof or line in the middle needs to be addressed so try the box first.

Wow that dress looks amazing on you-I'm sure a skilled seamstress can fix the poof around your hips. It really does look amazing on you

Definitely see what a good seamstress thinks. It looks great on you, and I think it would also look lovely tea-length. I might be a bit biased towards tea-length, though.

yes, make sure you take it to a professional. A lot of bridal stores that have seamstresses in the store would be your best bet instead of a mom and pop shop.
