Pier 5 Ceremony & Reception Reviews PLEASE!!!

Hello Ladies,
I am new to posting messages on here but I am hoping to get some of you expert advice. I was wondering if anybody has had there wedding at Pier 5 in downtown or if you have attended one there. My fiance and I are on a strict budget (who isn't these days??) but wanted something overlooking the harbor. Since he is from Atlanta, and I am from northeast PA we are getting married where we met and are going to be living. of the 150 guests we are inviting, about 130 of them are out of town (we are expecting about 125 to actually show up). Our wedding date is August 26, 2011. Please please please help...I am starting to feel overwhelmed already and it's not much fun anymore as I am too stressed out already.

Thanks,
Jessica

P.S. If you know of anybody that does military discounts, please pass that along as well, my fiance is in the Army! THANKS SO MUCH!!!

We looked at the Pier 5 and actually really liked it.  My fiance was a little turned off by all the purple they had going on in there-he said it was a little 80s.  With that said, they have GREAT deals if you do an off season wedding or a Friday wedding.  A friend of a friend of mine had her wedding their and LOVED it and had nothing but great things to say about it.  We ended up choosing another venue, but just for looking at the venue, they gave us a free one night stay and a package that included passes to the acquarium, science and sports museums, and breakfast.  It was great!
In terms of military discounts, maybe check the Aberdeen Proving Grounds-I think they have a venue.

I know two people who had attended weddings there and had nothing but great things to say about it.

I am getting married there in June.  Our ceremony will be outside (if it doesn't rain) and our reception is in the harbor club room.  So far everything has went well.  I had my food/cake tasting last weekend and it was so GOOD!  They really try to take care of everything so it takes some stress off the bride and groom.  I have been working with Heather and she is wonderful to work with.

It has a lot of modern decor and is very colorful.  It does have alot of purple, however, my wedding color is purple so it worked out great.  Im not one who is big on modern decor, i rather have something with an old, rustic, traditional feel like the tremont or the belvedere.  However, I just fell in love with pier 5 when i went.

Have you went to look at it yet?  Let me know if you have an questions.

My FI had to go back to Atlanta for the next 5 weeks (his mom is recovering from a really bad accident), so my mom and I are going to try and go look at it within the next week or 2. It looks really nice from the pictures online, and it all sounds good...but they all look nice and sound good online! lol  The purple worries me a little....we are thinking of doing a peach and apple theme (he is from GA and I am originally from NY), so we were thinking shades of red, orange (as in sunset orange not halloween), bright pink (not baby pink) and a really vibrant yellow. What do you think of that?  Thank you so much for all of your input so far!!!  Keep it coming!!!

We looked into the Admiral Fell Inn, which is owned by Harbor Magic (who also runs the Pier 5).  I believe there was between a 5%-15% military discount for booking anywhere with Harbor Magic.  If you can cut your guest list down a little bit, and you didn't like the Pier 5, I'd definitely suggest looking into the AFI.  It's in downtown Fells Point on the corner of Thames and Broadway.  We looked at the Pier 5 for our RD and the view from that ballroom is gorgeous!  But the Admiral Fell is a very different feel, as it's a historic inn.  Definitely check out both.  The Harbor Magic people are so nice!

I love the sound of your color scheme!  Sounds beautiful for late summer.  Try not to let decor make/break your decision.   While yes it is a part of the room, once the tables and chairs and dance floor are set up you can barely see the carpet (and if the lights are dimmed a lot of times you really don't even notice the floor).

They have another room there - Harbor West and I think those colors would look great in that room.  However, it's on the first floor and doesn't have a view like their Harbor club room.  They do have an attached private balcony to that room and its right on the water.  It's still very nice.

They have more pictures on their facebook page - harbormagic.  Also, before I went to look at it, I looked at local photographers' blogs/websites to see their pictures of pier 5 weddings just to see different weddings there.  A few that I could remember that had pics of pier 5 weddings are - love life images,  perskie, and jen lowe.

I agree with sweet - especially if you are having an evening wedding, you are not even going to notice that much when everything is set up and the lights are dimmed.

I would try to make your appointment with Heather - she is awesome!

i'll have to check out their facebook page! i didn't even think to look on photographer's websites for the venue. we also looked at they hyatt down town as well, i just received a rough contract from them, and there are a lot of stipulations in there that i am not comfortable with (ex. in basic terms they have the right to move my wedding to a different room if a better offer comes along, there's no guarantee that i will get the room that we want), the reason we liked it so much was for the view. the more i hear about pier 5 the more i am geting really excited about it. we originally had wanted our ceremony to be outside and i'm pretty sure i saw photo's for an outside ceremony!

Thank you so much for all of your help so far ladies! ANY other suggestions as far as our theme and colors would be greatly appreciated!

    Have a great day ladies!

WE JUST SIGNED THE CONTRACT AND BOOKED IT YESTERDAY!!! I am sooo excited now! You were all 100% correct, the view was breath taking. Since my fiance is still in Atlanta, my mom and I went, and there was actually a wedding going on so we were able to see how it all would be set up! We have booked the Lighthouse Garden for our ceremony, and the Harbor Club for our reception! Thank you all so much for your help...so far!!!
