  I had 3 showers.  The first one was 3 months before the wedding.  The last one was a month before the wedding.

  My shower was on May 22nd and my wedding was on June 26th.

  I am getting married in October but my sisters are throwing my shower really early (May 1) because I am in NC, one is in MD & the other is in TN and my TN sister will be in NC for a wedding that weekend and wont be able to get back until the wedding and she wants to be part of the shower, etc. 
  
  In most cases though I think its a month or 2 before the wedding!

  I have three... June 11 wedding, showers on March 19, April 30, and May 7.  The one is early because it's out of town for me and I can't really travel the month of April, and had plans for pretty much the entire month of May.

  I am only having 1, (that I am aware of thus far) and it will be May 14th, with my wedding on June 11!
