registering for extras?

We currently live in a small-ish apartment. We plan to move out of the city to a house sometime in the next 3-5 years, depending on how long it takes me to finish up school.

Now we are deciding the numbers of things to register for. Right now we can only entertain 8 at a time (all our table fits.) But I was thinking of registering for 12 place settings, chargers, place mats, etc. Is this nuts? I THINK with a little tweaking we can store it all, but a good chunk of the stuff won't get used for a few years. I just wouldn't want the stuff we like to get discontinued in that time.

Go ahead and register for the 12 settings. It doesn't take that much more to store, and you never know when that stuff will get discontinued. Also, you will probably break one or two pieces over the year, so if you only have 8, you might only be able to entertain 7.

I was also instructed by the registry attendants to register for 12 as well. No harm. No foul.

I would register for 12 as well. Most likely something will break in the future and you'll have extras.

Most definitely register for 12! You will be kicking yourself if you break a plate or something and only registered for 8.

Definitely go for it! We registered for 12 as well for the same reasons pp's have mentioned. Some unfortunately will end up breaking at some point, who knows when the pattern will get discontinued, and we plan on doing a lot of entertaining.
