Are alterations really this much?

I need some alterations done on my dress. And I just received a quote for $515

That's just a little less than what I paid for the entire dress!

Does anyone know of any tailors/seamstress' in the Houston area that are reputable and affordable?

I need a hem, sides taken in, bodice taken in and a bustle. Le sigh

I paid $75 for a bustle, and some lace added to the bust line. Then paid another $75 closer to the wedding for the waste/under arm area to be taken in. I just used a little shop over here in town....Angel Tailors in Pearland

I know this message is a bit late. Colletti Threads is wonderful and will work with any buget you may have give her a call. It is worth it.
