  A good band is awesome to get your guests up and moving! However, choose carefully, there are many different styles of bands that specialize in different music. Downtown Fever out of Boston is amazing. http://eastcoast.downtownfever.com/Downtown_Fever_-_East_Coast/East_Coast_Bands.html

  
  

  Bands tend to cost more and there are great DJ's out there too! Whatever you do, try to get a recommendation from someone with simmilar taste or even try to see the band/dj live in action.

  I agree - I had Steve Anthony and they were excellent!!  They did my brother's wedding too and they really do a variety of music.
  
  If you are willing to spend the money, I think hands down a band is truly worth it and your guests will love it.  But if you have a tight budget, I would go with a DJ.
  
  Like a PP said, you should go to a few different shows of bands to see what kind of vibe they give off and talk to the band during their breaks and let them know what you are looking for.  Steve Anthony usually plays to an older crowd, but they know all new songs and do them very well, but they may not showcase all their work in 1 night.
