June 2013 Weddings

reasonable?

I haven't found a venue yet, and don't plan to look for a dress til December (working to lose 40lbs by then)... We are going venue shopping this week and hopefully in the next two weeks we will lock one down...Is this reasonable? I feel like I'm SO behind! So far, the only thing we've got is our registry started Tongue Out and that only happened because Macy's had a registering event.... next weekend we're going to the bridal expo at the L.A. convention center, so I'm hoping we'll get a few things locked in then...anyone else feel this behind? (then again, I have a coworker that got engaged in May and is getting married in October and just found her dress yesterday! )

Re: reasonable?

  • Anything is doable, you just need to realize that you may need to be a little flexible if you plan on doing this.. since things may be starting to book up for your date and some wedding dresses take 6-8 months to come in if they are being made, plus time for fittings and alterations. If there is a dress you have your heart set on I would call up a bridal store near you and ask them how long they think it would take for it to come in.

  • I see what you're saying, but honestly, I kind of don't care when it comes to the details (where, what dress, flowers, decorations) only because I never 'envisioned' a wedding for me in the first place! So now that it comes down to actually planning, I'm very open and flexible only because (and this sounds bad), but I don't really care. As long as it's on June 2, 2013, that's all that I really care about....is that bad? lol
  • That's not bad, but make sue the first thing you ask when you call potential venues is if they still have your date. If not, nothing else they say will matter. You may have to look around more, although that is a Sunday, so you're probably not as bad off as if you wanted a Saturday.

Bring you check book to the bridal expo. You can lock down every vendor you can think of there if you really want. They are awesome for finding vendors and most give huge discounts if you sign up that day.

    Good luck!

  • Definitely good luck, but the things that are working in your favor is that your not in to details and your wedding is on a Sunday. In my opinion, it is late to book a venue, but since it is on a Sunday, you may not have too much trouble finding one. I would at least go try dresses on. I also wanted to lose like 40 lbs before finding a dress. One thing I have learned is that wedding dresses are extremely flattering to the figure, which I was shocked by. Dresses take a long time to come in and alterations add on more time, so dont leave it until the last minute. A dress store by me told me that absolute latest I should order is the beginning of October for my late June wedding. A dress store also told me most gowns are not made in this country, and around the holidays they shut down for about 6 weeks, something to keep in mind.

  • I know people who have planned weddings in less time then that and in the LA area. The good thing is it being such a huge area is lots of possible vendors versus smaller areas where they may only be a couple local vendors for each thing. I would just get moving on booking the big things ASAP like the venue, photographer and dj because the best will book up fast.

Also with the dress unless your planning on getting a dress off the rack definitely need to go much sooner then Decemeber. Like the person before said manufactureres of dress shut down around the holidays for 4-6 weeks and even the quick turn around places that can do rush orders 3-4 months and then need a couple weeks to do alterations so december would. I bought my dress already planning to lose weight and have already gone down to a dress size smaller then what I ordered but they assured me ordering the dress when I did and having it altered down would be not a problem but if I waited I risked it not coming in enough time.
