Mashed Potato Martini Bar

Anyone done this? What were the best toppings?

I haven't done it but I love this idea.  Ideas I've seen on the boards include different types of cheese, broccoli, bacon bits, sour cream, chives, shredded BBQ chicken/pork/brisket, caramelized onions, sauteed mushrooms, mushroom wine sauce, gravy (white and/or brown)...I'm sure there's more and I'm just blanking.

I've been to a couple weddings with a mashed potato bar. One had both regular and sweet potatoes. They had scallions, bacon, different cheeses, sour cream, butter, pesto, chopped fresh herbs, diced ham, gravy, broccoli, bell pepper and salsa for the regular potatoes.  They had marshmallows, pecans, maple syrup, nutmeg, pine nuts, cinnamon, apple butter and honey for the sweet potatoes. I'm pretty traditional, so I liked the bacon, cheese, sour cream and scallions on regular potatoes the best.

I dunno about putting anything other than alcohol in a martini glass, personally. ;-)

I want to do something like that at my wedding. I think it's an opportunity to really let yourself and your guests have fun making their own creations :-)

There's a really good restaurant here in MN called Joe's Garage that has a mashed potato bar and they've got some really fun toppings. Here's their mashed potato menu to give you even more ideas http://www.joes-garage.com/menus.php?mID=2

I especially like the toppings janice listed as additions for sweet potatoes! Yummy yum!

must be a midwest/southern thing, cuz to this new england gal it sounds ridiculous.  have a martini in a martini glass - put your mashed potatoes on your plate.

We are doing this as well... I cannot wait...
We are having red potatoes... purple potatoes... yukons and sweet potatoes...
They have the traditional bacon, cheese, chives... sour cream... butter etc... but they are also making this seafood mix.. it has shrimp, crab, white fish and is like a thicker chowder... it is AMAZING!!

Well I grew up in New England and still consider myself a Bostonian, but I love this idea and considered it for my wedding.  Still am depending on how many guests we have.

We do these pretty often at work for various functions and people love them!!!  For our holiday party this past year one of the toppings was Mac & Cheese (besides all the others listed above and that TOTALLY rocked).
