using an ipod for ceremony

 hi ladies, originally i wanted live musicians to perform at our ceremony. but we might have to cut costs.  i listened to the vitamin string quartet and love their stuff, i definitely want modern music to be played (personal preference). unfortunately, our reception band will not be able to help us with the ceremony music

my question is if you use an ipod, would you just have someone "manning" the music? maybe fade out the volume and start another song when necessary? i think the prelude, interlude, and postlude would be easy. its the timing of the processional that would make me a little nervous.

any thoughts or advice?

    Is your ceremony location okay with pre-recorded music?  Churches tend to not allow it, so I would check into that first.

    If your venue will allow this, you can make a playlist of the songs you want and yes, you would have to have someone to keep an eye on the length of each song so that everything flows smoothly.

    we are having an outdoor garden ceremony, that has electricity. the venue is totally fine with pre-recorded music. it's the logistics of it that makes me worried.

    im thinking we could use a stop watch and time the processional during the rehearsal. then just adjust the playlist accordingly.

     We are doing this.  My MOH FI is a sound tech so he will be manning the music for us.  We will just have to run through it a few times during rehearsal.

  • This is what we are doing as well.  Going to have one of my BM's boyfriend in charge of it, since i don't think he has any emotional attachment to watching me get married, haha.  I'll just have to have it all timed out beforehand and then practice once or twice beforehand....
  • Hi,

    We are also having an outdoor ceremony and using an IPOD playlist. We have asked a band member who is playing our reception to "man" the music. Basically you just need someone who knows timing and I would definitely recommend having them at your rehearsal to go through everything. Best of Luck!
  • I'm sort of doing the same thing but on cd for the ceremony.  I found a music editor to download and edit the music - shortening where needed, fading out, etc. I'm still editing but will burn to cd when finished. Try googling *wave pad editor* and you should find it or something similar.   It's very tedious  but I really needed to edit some of the music to make it easier for my friend to handle playing.
  • One friend says bride receives first and another friend says groom.  I'm not sticking to a very traditional ceremony but don't wanna it to seem I got confused and did it wrong. So who receives the ring first?
  • I am doing this too.  I will have my DOH (day of helper) in charge so we will practice with her.  I will download the songs in the order we need them and she can fade out as needed.  FI will figure out the logistics then maybe we can finetune it the the rehearsal.

  • That is exactly what we are doing. We happen to know a professional sound coordinator so he is bringing in all the sound equipment and manning the ipod. I think it's a great option as long as your venue allows it.

  • In Response to Who receives their ring first?:
    Traditional: Bride receives ring first, then groom.
