Engaged on my birthday!

I am finally engaged! My fiancé woke me up at midnight with a Dairy Queen cake (my favorite...I asked him to get one for my birthday) that said: "Will you marry me?" I am really excited, but I need your advice about when to have the wedding. I originally wanted to have it in June 2013 after I graduate from grad school, but now that I am actually engaged I have to admit I do want to get married next summer.

At first I thought June 23 of 2012 would be perfect because it's our anniversary (we started dating December 23), but my fiance's bother is getting married that month and he doesn't want to steal his brother's wedding. Then I suggested his birthday in July to get married... But he still says he wants to wait two years...Ahhhh that seems so far from now!

    Congrats on your engagement!

    Two years will fly by, believe me. I got engaged in November so we obviously have well over two years to go. Still, I'm amazed we're almost below the two year mark already.

    I can understand wanting to get married next year - that is what my FI and I originally wanted to do. However, after much discussing, we decided that it would be easier to wait until after I graduate. I think that waiting until you are done with grad school may be a lot easier than trying to plan a wedding and get married while you're in the middle of it. But that's just my opinion.

    congratulations! i was engaged on my birthday, too! december 4 of last year.. our date is december 22, 2012... our 'tentative' date, anyway, since he and i are both in school.

    i was actually perusing this board to see what was up with other brides-to-be with really long engagements.
    IMO it's been great to not have to stress about anything.. i'm going to start planning mid-summer and sortof do it little by little, and by the time we get to the big day, i won't have anything last minute to stress about! hopefully it will work out well for you, too Smile

    there is a teeny tiny part of me though, that gets jealous any time someone else gets engaged, and sets their date before mine. i think that has to do with the fact that i've been with my fiance for 6.5 years, and i'm SO ready to get married. HOWEVER, that is another post entirely.
