Is Hawaii safe...or will it be by July?

We were going to book our honeymoon this week, but have put it on hold.  My mom is worried that the harmful nuclear radiation will reach Hawaii.  Others have also said we should wait a week or or two and see what happens in Japan.
Worrying about our honeymoon seems trivial with everything going on in Japan, but we're just trying to figure out what to do.

President Obama spoke yesterday and said there is no present danger to the US including Hawaii and Alaska from the radiation. With that said, a US war ship 100 miles away from Japan moved further out to sea due to higher radiation levels. I would probably wait until everything is under control to book just in case, but that is because I'm a scientist that is completely afraid of nuclear radiation.

We were looking at a trip in July also and are not going.  Just too close for comfort and danger.

I'd probably try to come up with alternative honeymoon destinations.  It's unknown what exactly is going to happen with the radiation.  What does Obama know?  Only that there's no "present" danger, but that can change tomorrow.

Hawaii's nice and all, but 10 hour flight, plus a connecting flight.  It's a bit much if you just want sun and sand - you can do the Caribbean for less.  BUT, if you want volcanoes and black sand beaches, then yeah, Hawaii.

Would be a shame to miss out in Hawaii. I'd wait a bit and see what happens. We actually got better airfare waiting until 2 months before.

All the news reports I have seen have said that there is no danger to Hawaii and the West Coast.  I wouldn't cancel just yet if it is your dream HM....that is still a long time away.

We are going mid July.  It will be fine, I'm pretty sure it's still far away enough to be ok.

No you shouldn't worry about it. Even if there is a nuclear meltdown of some sort, it will not affect Hawaii. It will be more in tune with 3 mile island. It will never be a Chernobyl because the circumstances are completely different. In Chernobyl they were running a test that went wrong. As soon as the earthquake hit Japan the nuclear power plant shut down. It's slowly cooling down, but at most it would effect the food/water supply in Japan. It will have no impact on Hawaii. Don't believe all the hype.
