back in the workout groove - post wedding

It has been almost 4 weeks since my wedding. I have turned into a total slug. Need to get back into the swing of going to gym - but have no motivation. Anyone have any good ideas. I did P90x over the summer to get in shape...and usually about this time I would be doing the NYC marathon. Having trouble getting motivated to get moving. Anyone else feel this way after their wedding.

Yes!  Bronchitis and work being crazy have had a major impact but I'm going to try to get to the gym tonight.  I haven't gained weight, but I feel like crap from not doing anything.  I need to get back on a regular schedule.

omg, i am in the same boat. Went to the gym religiously iin preparation for the wedding. I went on Tuesday of this week for the first time in almost 4 weeks. i have a  colleague who is extremely into working out. he says its good for your body to take a period of rest every once in awhile. and when you do this you start seeing better results.....i guess we will see though :)

works been nuts and i too have been sick since i got home from my honeymoon.

I was the same way.  Still kind of am.  I just joined a new gym so that helped.  I also noticed that my pants arent fitting as well as they should so thats been getting me motivated.  Its depressing because I ran the Philly marathon last year and was in the best shape of my life and 1 year later I am feeling like my body turned to jello.  Thats whats been motivating me lately.

I'm right there with you!  I've been trying to get back for a week but I just can't get myself going.  My mother and I go together so we need to start pushing each other to get back.  I'm going to try again today.

    Quit the gym.......seriously....quit the gym....

This may not work for everybody but it has worked for me.....

Think to yourself how much you spend on your gym membership, and then think about how many days you have actually gone this year.  If you have gone more than once a week (50 times), then it may be worth sticking to it for another year and see what happens.  The hardest part of working out at a gym is getting there.  If you have not gone at least once a week, seriously consider making a change.  I see so many people that have been "going to the gym" for years, but basically have the same level of physical health year after year.

I made that change a few years ago, and it was for the better.  I just got bored at the gym, it was getting super crowded, roads were getting more congested after work, and I had little motivation and less and less time to get there.

Now I have a much better lifestlye.  I am in great shape, and vary my exercise regime so I never get bored with it, and it is actually stuff I enjoy to do.

I started playing volleyball again, 1-2 times a week...sand court in summer, hard court in winter.  I also started playing tennis here and there with a few coworkers.  I also try and run a few charity runs throughout the year, and that gives me a goal to get out there for 1-2 months prior and do some running to train.  My wife and I got bikes and go biking often.  I never thought in a million years I would be able to bike 40-50 miles, but it's really not that hard once you get into it.  Sometimes we take them on the train and go into NYC and ride along the river and  through the park....it's a great day to spend a Saturday.  Sometimes we just ride around our development / town.

The key is to stay active, and plan things to do that you enjoy so you will do them.  To suppliment, I built a home gym in my basement with the savings year after year of not joing a gym.  To be honest, the gym get's little use, I overbuilt it.  Now I stick with high intensity, short duration workouts on days I workout at home.  I am usually done in 30 minutes.  Sometimes I will do a push-up/pullup workout that last's 15 minutes = done.  Other days a jumprope workout for 10-20 minutes = done, or a heavy bag workout for 3 five minute rounds, etc.  I enjoy doing this and it's quick.  In fact, I do very little weight training and will probably sell my weights soon and all my other heavy workout equipment.

I think if you incorporate exercise and active things you enjoy into your weekly routine, you won't think twice about it and you will finally have consistency as part of your lifestyle.

I totally agree with User. I quit the gym and took up running and I joined a local boot camp that is three times a week. I am probably in the best shape that I have ever been in and it doesn't require me to go to the gym.

I wasn't going to the gym enough because I kept injuring myself on the treadmill and then would go on long hiatuses.  I started taking Lotte Berk-style classes (I do Core Fusion, but Bar Method and Physique 57 are very similar).  The structure of class (and the fact that I have to make appointments that I can't cancel last-minute) makes me actually go, and I enjoy it more than going to the gym by myself.  And I've seen great results.

I think sometimes it is just a matter of finding what you really enjoy and what isn't just a chore to you.

I agree V, I take a BodyPump class at my gym that I just LOVE, I don't dread going at all.  Between those, running and trying to walk the dog every day I should be good.  :)

I just started working out again last night SIX months after my wedding. So its about time. I like the 30day shred. It doesn't take too much time since I work in the city and live in NJ I don't have a ton of time. I think it worked pretty well for me. I also quit my gym.
