alterations at Davids in Deptford

I need some feedback, I bought my dress at Davids in Deptford and am weary about getting the alterations done there. I have had terrible customer service there in the past and have had 2 people tell me DO NOT GO THERE for alterations. So, I'm taking a consensus. I appreciate any and all feedback!

I just had one of the consultants tell me that I will save alot of money going elsewhere - they charge an arm and `leg for alterations. I went to the one in Moorestown for my dress and my consultant is awesome, but would not get alterations done there. I got a couple recs to go to Fashion Stitch, Yeon is the ladies name. And she is supposed to be amazing and affordable. She is located in Cherry Hill.

My FMIL is a seamstress, if you would like her info, let me know and i will get it to you.  She is wonderful..She was going to make my dress but it was cheaper for me just to buy it! HTH

I went with davids bridal but mostly because I got their credit card when I bought my dress (0% interest for 1 year) so I was able to put my alteration costs on there too and not have to worry about coming up with the cash.  My first fitting well really well but it was pricey.  I have my final fitting 9/17 I'll let you know how it goes!

I have chosen not to get my dress there because of the awful customer service I received there (and I found a dress I loved at Jay West in Haddonfield for a similiar price).

That being said, my friend found  gorgeous bride and bridesmaid dresses there two years ago for her wedding, but the alterations were awful!  First they told me the size two looked too tight and to get a four.  I know you are better getting big than small but $165 in alterations (for a hem and takng in the chest) later I wished I had the smaller size dress that zipped up fine and had maybe a tiny bend in the zipper on the back.  (My chest wasn't hanging over the dress or anything.)

I went in for my appointment and ten days later came back for my dress and they tried to tell me I gained two inches around my waist.  I had no problem with the measurement that was 2" wider, the first one could have been wrong, but there is no way I gained 2" in ten days and the dress stll zipped up fine.  They took too much in at the waist and even though I was very skinny at the time of this wedding my hips look bigger than normal.  They pulled so much in at the waist that my hips stood out.  Also they were not supposed to take in the waist just the chest which they did not take in at all until I said something.  I had them make corrections but I some point I settled for things how they were.

When I went to get my dress after the final fitting there was a teenage girl crying that her dress was altered wrong and they were telling her the same line about gaining weight.

The bride had even more problems with her dress than I did.  When she went to pick it up they tried to tell her she had gained weight (again in like a week's span)
and that is why her dress looked wrong, not that they did a bad job.  Beads were missing and it was dirty so she ended up finding a the sample dress off the rack in her size and telling them she was wearing this one and not the one they altered.  Eventually she complained enough that she found someone who knew what she was doing and it looked great, but it was a huge hassel.  This girl's name was Jackie.

If I had gotten my dress there I would have considered alterations there (only because if they screw up they could at least get you another dress), but I would have asked for Jackie.  (Assuming she still works there).

Sorry this was long, just wanted to give an accurate assement of my experience there. =)

I have heard so many horror stories from the Deptford store - for both bridesmaid dresses and bridal gowns.  I did not care for their customer service - or lack there of - especially if they are commission based!
When I had to get a bridesmaid dress from them a couple years ago, I actually went over to the Maple Shade location for my alterations.  Everyone there was nice as could be and the dress couldn't have fit me better.
