1st this is not wedding related at all- this is just about my moody dog

My dog is mad at me.. And I hate to admit it but it is just breaking my heart!! My FI and I went on a week long vaca (1st long vacation ever since we have had her) She stayed at a dog boarding/daycare for 5 days then his moms house for 2. She has had dogs to play with the entire time, but she is the only animal here. This is my 1st dog to own and this crazy bird dog is usually over active, licking, everyone, crawling on laps thinking she is a tiny dog.... and we brought her home yesterday and since then she is just laying around, sleeping, didnt eat dinner, wont play with any toys - called FMIL and she said Daisy was perfectrly fine at her house

I think shes depressed Has your dog ever done this? How can I snap her out of it? and yes i know im over reacting, but she looks so sad!

My cat does this. He was really depressed when my first roommate moved out and took her cat with her, and when we bring him home from MIL's after a long trip, where he has other cats to play with, it usually takes a few days before he's back to normal. We've been strongly considering getting him a friend for a while now.

She may be depressed at the rapid fire changes. She may be bored at the sudden lack of playmates. I doubt she's 'mad' at you, simply because dogs rarely get mad at their owners and are usually just happy to see them. She might only be pooped out from a week of hard play, just like our need to take a weekend to recuperate from a really great vacation.

What you might watch out for, however, is signs of illness. A week at a boarding facility is plenty of time to pick up a bug. If she doesn't perk up in a few days, it might be a good idea to swing her by your vet.

Yes, my otherwise loving dog was depressed after we went away for our honeymoon. He was listless and didn't want much to do with us for a few days. But then he just woke up one morning as his normal sunny self. Give it a few days - she'll snap out of it

They are good at guilting, aren't they? Big changes can get animals depressed--my parents' lab got really depressed (in fact, her whole attitude changed) after her mom died just after Christmas. She's much more sedate and clingy now than she used to be. And my two girls get a bit snotty with us if they feel they're not getting enough attention/walks.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, although, as a previous poster said, keep on the lookout for signs of illness--you never know.

I think it's a stress thing. My cat does the same thing if we go away and leave him with my mom or have a friend come feed him. He'll ignore us and spend his time sleeping, then he's back to normal. He also sheds like crazy during those times.

Since your dog went to a boarding facility then to your mom's, then home, I imagine she is stressed out and tired. Kennels are stressful on dogs (I used to work at one and I know what they go through, poor things) and the constant changes can be hard to get used to, especially if she's never done it before. She's probably exhausted and still getting her bearings back.

Give her a few days and I'm sure she'll be back to normal. And treats always help!

Dogs are smart. My parents have a border collie and the minute my mom takes out a suitcase or overnight bag, she gets this sad look in her eyes and kind of shies away from my mom. It's heartbreaking!

One of my dogs does this too, she is very sensitive. Even over little things like when the other dog goes to the vet without her, she likes to sulk. We usually take her out somewhere like Petsmart because she loves car rides and get her a new pigs ear or something she really likes. Essentially, bribery.

That said, I would keep an eye to make sure your dog is eating and drinking, there is a small chance she picked something up at the kennel, but I doubt it.

Thanks ladies - i won't lie i felt horrible! She is coming around a little, still sleeping, but is very clingy, but is staring to actually play somewhat, but she still hasn't drank or eating anything (other than treats) since yesterday around 7pm

My dog does stuff like this too, he's a shelter dog so I'm pretty sure he has major abandonment issues. Usually he follows me around and always needs attention so if he isn't doing that I think he's mad at me or is feeling overwhelmed: leaving them for extended periods of time can do this.

And just for the hell of it.... Here he is!!

Aw Jenna, your dog is adorable.

OP - give your dog a few days to re-acclimate. Also since he/she was boarded do watch for signs of illness.

OP,

Dogs don't like change, they like routine. Just go back to your normal routine & she will too. Dogs don't get depressed/ mad or at least not how we do. Yes, their reactions might seem like our emotions, but they are different. Most likely she is tired, plus she might be acting differently because YOU are. Dogs are extreme social animals & react b/c of how their people act. Feeling bad is usually the worst thing, just act normal.

Thank you! I love him!! But sometimes I have to have him shaved down because his hair gets out of control and then he looks like something off of a Ren & Stimpy episode.
