Alteration prices

Anyone know how much alterations usually run?  I'll be needing a bustle, probably the hem up, and the sides of the bodice taken in.

It depends a lot on who is doing them.  We used Estee Livioco; she and Angie Cavallaro seem to be the independent seamstresses who get the highest reviews in this area.  We had one dress taken up, one bodice taken out, both dresses given five-point bustles, two veils attached to tiaras, and a blusher veil made, and the total cost was $225.  Your cost would presumably be rather less than that, since you aren't talking about having her deal with veils or do a second bustle.

From what I hear, having the bridal store itself do the alterations tends to be a lot more expensive.  And it's more unpredictable whether they will be done well--it may depend on which bridal store and which seamstress happens to get the job.

I used Estee.  My strapless dress was too tight, so she loosened it, changed the back to a V, rather than straight across, and also changed the strapless neckline from a straight one to more of a sweetheart.  She also shortnened it, and it only cost $175.  My MIL also had her gown done by Estee and her alteration was only $85 -- even though Estee loosened the arms, lifted the waist up from my MIL's hips and shorterned the length by about a foot.

Oh, also included in the $175, she charged was this very simple looking, but quite elaborate Italian bustle.  I think there were about 24 snaps to it, and Estee color-coded them which made it easy to do the bustle post ceremony.

I'm getting the top taken in a hair, a bustle, and a hem for the front portion of the dress. Should run $200 - $250. DANG
