Wedding bouquets, etc.

Just curious what florist you are using.  Who not to use!?!

What was your experience?  Pricing?

Thanks.

We're using Sugar Snap.  I love, love, love Shirley.  She works with your budget and proposes three levels for just about everything.  She quoted three different bouquets, three different centerpieces, three different altars, etc.  She's also very willing to make changes throughout the entire process and was just lovely when we met in person. She also responds to emails the same or next day, which matters to me.  We ended up coming in at $1600 for everything, but that could have been much lower if I didn't pick such expensive flowers (orchids, droool).

We also met with The Embellishers.  Their prices were much lower, but we couldn't seem to get on the same page with the look I was going for. They were nice too though.

Ordering them (probably from Sam's) and doing them myself.

We're using Holiday House. I chose them primarily because of photos from previous weddings they've done. I've been working through email with Kim Stetson and typically she's pretty quick to respond (been waiting a few days on this last one, though).  She sent me a very detailed proposal with floral and decor specifics, which matched well to my vision.  However, the first proposal came back at more than twice my budget (my fault b/c I didn't send her one at first).  Since then we've worked it to keep most of my vision intact and stay within my budget.

I also talked with the Embellishers. Both Brenda and Gail are incredibly nice and actually came in quite a bit under my budget.  However, it seemed like they wanted to do everything over the phone and it was hard for me to picture specifics as I don't know flowers that well and was having to google things as we talked.

Both Sugar Snap and Renee Landry Blooms were also highly recommended to us, but they were both already booked for our date.

Oh, here are my price quotes for the bouquets (which I'm sure is very dependent on flowers)
    Holiday House $225/bride $55/bridesmaid
    Embellishers: $155/bride $80/bridesmaid

    Holiday House Bouquet description:

Bride: Hand Tied clutch of Flame mini callas, White Dahlias, red gerberas, orange roses and green hypericum berries with a ¾ wrap of satin

Bridesmaids: (3) Hand tied clutches of orange spider gerbers, and green hypericum berries with a ¾ wrap to match dresses

I second Ms. Teach. We are also using Shirley from SugarSnaps and we LOVE her. Our entire flower order will be just over $1,000. Like Ms. Teach, we are using more expensive flowers like Calas and Orchids. I really love flowers and I was willling to spend more on them than other things for the wedding. So, it's all about your vision. Hope this helps!

I have a friend who is getting our flowers wholesale and making bouquest for us.  I would talk with your friends/ family and see if anyone has any flower experince.  We are saving a lot of money by having her arrange flowers for us.

I ordered mine from etsy.com. A girl is makin me a bridal and bridesmaid bouquet, and a boutineer for the groom and best man, all for $218. I'm obsessed with my flowers! They're not real of course. I didn't want to spend a whole lot on flowers, figured they'd travel well, and it's one less thing I'll have to worry about on the wedding day!

I'm using I Do Florals.  Holly is who I've been talking too and she's great.  She worked with my budget and is doing 3 bouquets and 3 bouts.  The centerpieces that I wanted were a little out of my price range so I'm doing them myself and purchasing the 30 gerberas that I need from her.

For the ladies ordering their flowers and making the bouquets yourselves, where are you ordering them from? I am planning to do the same but am not sure where the best place is to order flowers from in OBX?! Thanks!

I hear that the Harris Teeter floral dept down there is really good to work with and I think I am going to use them as well.  Our flowers are orange asiatic lillies (the groom's ONLY request, lol) and FMIL used to do floral arrangements so we are going to purchase a few stalks, since you can get several blooms from one stalk, and make a very simple bouquet for the girls.

Those are one of the lillies we are using as well! Your FI has excellent taste Smile

Let me know what you think of Harris Teeter, and I will be sure to check them out when we are on vacation down there in September!

Shirley at Sugar Snap has been great.  She put together a wonderful proposal that really captured what I wanted.  And she provided two tiers of price options.  She responds quickly to all my crazy e-mails and is so sweet!

When in September are you going?

Have you picked your venue or are you planning to do that in Sept?  If you are considering 108 Budleigh, I am more than happy for you to come by on 9/16, our wedding day, to see how it looks set up....and we could meet each other too :)

OBX- We are going to be there 9/3-9/10, but that is such an amazing offer I wish I could take you up on!! I think we are going to be renting houses on the 4x4 access or in Whalehead. We have always stayed there when we vacation and I can't say which ones on here because they are not *technically* event houses, shhhh! I was thinking of renting two or three houses and that way all the guests can stay with us. But we are still in the early planning stages so we will see!

Thank you again for the offer- so generous of you!!

We're gettin our flowers through Maggi at the Harris Teeter in Kitty Hawk.  I've heard great things about her and the owner of the Saltaire House in Duck raved about her saying how many of the brides that have gotten married at his location had great experiences.  I'm having her put together the bridal bouquet and one for my MOH, plus 4 bouts for groom, BM, FOB and FFIL and 2 corsages for MOB and FMIL.  For my centerpieces she is just going to order the bulk flowers and I'm going to arrange them myself the morning of the wedding with the help of my MOH and the moms.  SUPER AFFORDABLE!
